Not sure about Louisiana’s POY.... lol

Wickersham must have had a bad senior year to not get it

Olivia Lackie or Raelin Chaffin should have won. By far better players and had better stats

There seems to be a lot of politics involved in who wins these awards.

Keep in mind that academics and community service also play a role in selections.

I clicked about 11 (the bigger softball states) and all but 1 were pitchers.

Who exactly votes on these awards?

Its a testament to the kids to be able to play at such a high level, give back to the community, and succeed in school

It's not meant for the best players, it's for the best student athletes.  She had great stats, led her team to state, solid volunteer work and a 4.0.  Not something I'd laugh at her for.

Def pitcher heavy this year but I'm sure all of them are deserving

I think it's a committee decision among GPOY reps rather than a vote.  They round up a few nominees in every state and contact the AD's of their schools to get parental permission to release transcripts (yes, grades are a big part of it).

I predicted my state's winner a few weeks ago in a pm to another poster in our state.  She's a pitcher who plays for a stacked HS team but the kid undeniably deserved it.  Her team beat last year's winner head to head so she made a good case for a non-repeat winner.

The selection committee has always favored pitchers.  I know of a past winner who barely had a 3.0 gpa and her community service involved keeping the score 1 time a year at the opening night of her town's rec league.  But, because she was a pitcher, that was enough to get her selected over position players who had a way better resume.
