There are rumblings in the West.

Who is the real number 1 team?

U Dub which beat the Gators.
UCLA (with its new super-star pitcher,Megan)
or Arizona.

I will have to accept that Florida is the only team in the East that might have a chance of beating any of the West teams for the championship.

Frank, have a question:
Remember the Florida AD let Larry & Karen go as they had recruited many Cal Players, had winning seasons and yet had not won the World Series.
Wonder if the same thing will happen to Tim also if he does not win the world Series this year?
After all he does have 8 Cal players.

Hammer - Tim Walton has done a fabulous recruiting and coaching job, as have his assistants. His job is absolutely not in jeopardy. His teams have reached national acclaim level and are on the brink of winning the SEC Championship (already achieved) and moving on with a legitimate shot at a national title. That's what Jeremy Foley (AD) wanted, and Walton has delivered. The program was always a "on the brink" program before he arrived, and his approach to program has taken them to the heights required of a Gators' coach. They want national acclaim and championships in Gainesville. Walton's teams have given them just that.

Thanks for the info.
We will see how long he will last even if he does not win the World Series.
If he wins it, he will be there for life.

with florida absolutely chomping the competition this year in SEC (and overall just being pretty stacked)....it leads me to wonder: what is the earliest in the season that the SEC title has been clinched?? I know Florida only has 3 SEC games remaining, but there are two weeks still left in overall conference play.

Anyone beat them to the title punch in the short SEC history, or is this Florida team that dominant??

I would guess year 1, when South Carolina went 25-1 to win the league(that was a great team, 63-5 with a trip to the WCWS). I don't know when they clinched, but they won the league rather easily. UT was 20-7, LSU was 18-6. South Carolina, I believe, was the only SEC team playing softball before the league began, they'd been an establishe power for some time. Interestingly enough, that South Carolina team(10-0) and this Florida team(13-0) are the only 2 teams in SEC history to go unbeaten in SEC road games.

Fpitch9 - Can you tell me where I can find the type of information that you just posted? Is there a list of regular season champs and tournament champs? If so, could you provide it. I remember when the SEC ADs had decided that women's track (5 schools had women's track) would meet Title 9 legislation, and they wanted to do away with softball. Joyce Compton and the South Carolina program won out legally, and the Softball SEC was born.
P.S. All I can get is that the Softball SEC is 13 years old.

Frank, it's in the SEC media guide. Gotta scroll down a bit to page 74.

Fpitch9 - Thanks a million !! It brought back a lot of memories and filled in a few gaps in thinking. SEC Softball sure has come a long way in 13 years.

Just found out from the SEC Media Guide that LSU has won 5 conference championships since the conference began. Florida has won 3. Georgia has won 2. South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee have each won 1. Since 2004, the pendulum has swung from LSU to Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida. South Carolina won the first ever conference title in 1997.

Why is Florida and their fans so,so quite....seriously.
If I was the No1 team, I would be happy and getting ready to win the national championship.

Florida does have a very good shot at winning ,against the West teams.

Bama and Geogia also have reasonable shots against the West teams.

Last year's experience should pay-off for Florida in the CWS.
I see Florida being awarded Regional and Super Regional sites.

Isn't Florida expected to get the injuried player back?

But, after winning the SEC title....Gators start talking about NC.

For a team that set its sights on a national championship in the preseason, winning the regular-season conference title is only one step on the road to Oklahoma City.

“We're just working goal by goal, and we accomplished our first one today,” Gardiner said.

Final Goal:  National Championship series.

Florida has too much CLASS to constantly brag about how great they are.

Or are the Gators nervous based on what happened last year.
The were ranked No.1 last year, as well.

But, for the GATORS to win the Nationals Championship -
...they must be able to beat these two teams.

1.0 Can Gators beat UCLA?
2.0 Can Gators beat U Dub? Already lost to this team.

JG,

In a projected Super Regional match-up:

Gators  vs  Ohio St.

The Gators do not know much about the Buck.
This will be a disadvantage.

Gators in three?

What do you know about O...

Joisey,

After the Arizona game, a number of us went out and we let the losers pay, of course.

Then....

One said.........  Can the real Tenn team please stand up?

This was referring to U Dub or Florida.
Which one or both of these teams ...will do a Tenn-Abbott.

All this blather is fine, but ultimately they play them on the field. In any tournament, the best team might not win, but the team that does win earns the right to be called champion. I'm ready to see some great softball in the post season.

Jay,

I have the Gators as the No1 seed.

Regardless of what happens at the SEC tournament.

Two years in a row, as the NO.1 seed.

The favorite to WIN ....the NC..

She been in a few games. Got some hits.
She is probably  2 to 3 weeks.... before she is ~ close to 100%

Good to see her back, Senior Season.

JW, I think the Gators should be the #1 seed, regardless. Doesn't mean, I don't hope for some sort of revenge if both make it to the SEC finals.

And yes, the favorite to win WCWS (maybe alongside UW), but I also think crow isn't the best meal to be eating in Gainesville around this time of the year. One thing non-SEC schools need to know about UF (as a whole), they know how to let you have it. But they usually wait until they have something to throw in your face, before they start talking.

JessieWildcat,
I watched Kim W. this weekend and chatted with her briefly at the postgame picnic.  She looks close to 100% and of course, acts 110%!
These women amaze me....a broken leg  (tibial plateau fracture) is quicker to heal than a high ankle sprain, large muscle tear, or ligament strain!?! Kim's been through so much these past two seaons (lost her dad last year), she deverves an extended period of no bad stuff!!  She's ready to go for the post season!! Thanks for asking!
Also, I just discovered this forum last week!  Contrary to some of the sticks in the mud, you material is fun, pretty fair, and entertaining!! It's what being a great fan is all about.  For me, I'll take the polls, the record, and the RPI until I have something more to brag about.
Go SEC! Humble the Left Coast!!!

Gatorbob,

Good to hear the status of  Kim W. and her good health.
Good luck in the tournament.

With the exception of Arizona.

Florida is the no.1 seed.

How difficult of a road will the selection people make it for the Gators?

As the competition gets better, Nelson is giving up TOO many runs.

If the last two games are any indication, Nelson is not pitching very well and is not up to TOP form.

Will her pitching against the better teams continue?
Her pitching has not been dominating.

Is this just a reflection of the Gators schedule?

Something is very wrong in Gator country.
And it does appear that the Gators will not win the NC, for a second straight year.

Jessie -- What two games are you referring to Nelson not pitching well in? Last time I checked it was only one game against Bama.
