Gators1 - I think it could be one heck of a game.  Cats or Gators will win but, frankly it has become quite a bore, from those that will say about anything to make a Cat victory (nothing is impossible) seem to have been a farce.

If you beat us, you will get the "due" you deserve.  However, it's got to work both ways - I know Stacey is a great pitcher, and know she gives up few runs.  But, personally, I think we have a "pretty good club" also.

I saw another great pitcher get beat Sunday (Meagan L, UCLA), and sometimes things that most don't count on, "happen" - especially at this time of year.

There were a bunch of HRs hit by a lot of clubs in regionals and supers, and our total was small.  Heard absolutely NOTHING about ANY of the others, even "possibly" coming because of the bats.

Just because Stacey has only given up only few, doesn't necessarily relate to what might happen this week - with that philosophy, NO Gator fan can ever accept her being beat, and especially by the bat.  You know as well as I, that that is ridiculous.  You get beat, you lose.  You win, the other team loses.

Either that, or just have them mail in the trophy, and NCAA could save a LOT of money. To start saying it "just can't happen" because of this or that just won't cut it in this particular arena.

May the best team Thurs win!

And "Fpitch9", I can't believe that you are really going to start this crap again (after WEEKS of beating up on this club).

It's THREE (3) short days before the premiere softball event of the year. Give it a rest - please.

indyrun - nothing but the greatest of respect for the Cats.  Great program with great players, great tradition, and a huge challenge.  Yes, the best team will win and my bias says it will be the Gators.  Frankly, I don't care if it is 1-0 or 10-9 (doesn't really matter), so the illegal bats theory isn't on my radar screen.  The Cats are better than a "pretty  good club."  Otherwise, they wouldn't be heading to OKC tomorrow.   I will "give appropriate due" to whomever wins this game.  Not taking any shots at the Cats or anyone else in the tourney.  I just believe the Gators are playing fairly well and will grind out games however they end up needing to do the job.  It is a hardy and versatile bunch that is well coached.  I like their chances on Thursday, but not taking anything away from the Cats.  Should be a great game.

Go Gators!

Gator1 - and a tip of the hat to YOU.

This is such a great event, as you know.  Some fantastic clubs here, and OKC is a venue that has seen some of the greatest softball games ever, over the years.  I hope our game, and the others all meet that criteria.

I'm, of course, pulling for the Cats, but have NOTHING but the highest respect for your Gators - definitely one of the best, if not the "cream of the crop".

GO CATS!

The Arizona vs  Gator game will be exciting to watch.
The Arizona crowd will be pumped up.
We want lucky BALD guy  to show up.

The Cats will surely be fired up from the statement from  UF catcher Kristina Hilberth.

(Another catcher, Stanford said something to the effect of BUFFOONs.)

The AZ vs UF game will be determined by who AZ puts in the circle, and what she does. Everything else involved in this game is a known quantity. AZ's pitching can go either way. They are as likely to shutout the UF hitters as they are to give up a lot of runs.

I will say this. The pitching had better be infinitely better than it was in the Stanford SR. The Gators are not as undisciplined at the plate as the Cardinal hitters.

Congradulations to the Gators for winning their first game of the CWS.

It was a good heavy weight atmosphere.

The AZ pitching , Sarah , came in and did a good job.

Hopefully, the Cat-Bats  will come alive.

This seems to be a BIGGER game for Florida...GAME 1.

A loss and the PRESSURE would be too much.

Florida must avoid the third game.

I beg to differ. A game 3 would only favor Florida because Lawrie would need an IV in her arm in the circle to keep throwing.

Florida has the depth, UW doesnt. UW needs to win this in 2, I dont think they have enough gas left in the tank for a 3rd.

Game 2 will need to be  won by NELSON.

Her pitches need to be ON.

Lets see if Florida can bounce back.

Second place finish is a good accomplishment.

"Losing sucks, especially on this stage," said pitcher Stacey Nelson.
"But the thing I'm going to take from this is the 20 girls I played with for four years.
There's a lot of pain, but what I am going to remember is that the four years I spent at the University of Florida were the best years of my life."

And from the coach.

There will never be another No. 42 at Florida in softball as long as I'm the coach," Walton said of Nelson's number.
"This team will go down as one of the best teams ever in the sport of softball."

Frank, do you think that the Florida coach will be on shaky ground for not having won the World Series even with so many California players.
Did the two previous coaches not get fired for that same reason.
Do you think that the AD will give him another year to get the ring ????
If not will he be out of the door ?????

Hammer - Tim Walton is walking on cement. I'm sure the AD recognizes the fine job he has done with Florida Softball. This team has won the SEC Championship, gone to the finals of the national tournament, and finished a 63-5 season that follows a 70 win season. If anything, Walton's handling of the Gator's program will be applauded. A coach whose team finished second in the nation probably gets a raise in salary, not a pink slip. Walton is far out of reach of "The Turk". He has brought championship caliber play to Florida, and that is what the AD and Gator fans demanded.

Frank, happy to hear that, as he seems to be a nice guy.
also like the way he handles the players and the game.
But still needs more experience in some of his decisions.
like whom to put where, and when.

Can not believe she remembered ....way back then....

On Feb. 20, after that victory, Lawrie said Florida coach Tim Walton compared the Gators to Pac-10 elite program  Arizona, indicating the Huskies didn't belong in that class.

"I remember him not giving us any recognition for how we played," Lawrie said.

"I said after the first game [Monday], it means nothing. Every single pitch that I threw I gave 100 percent of what I had. I felt good with everything."

I saw Danielle talking about that in the post game on the news. I hadn't heard Walton's comment before and I was expecting a more upbeat Danielle after the game, but when she was talking about it she looked PISSED.

That was very disrespectful to UW and Danielle at the time and she obviously doesn't forget.

Disappointed & embarrassed was how I felt watching these 2 teams play each other at the WCWS, sloppy defense riddled with many errors, not agressive offensively, bases loaded watching the 3rd strike go by...reminiscent of the Bad News Bears!?

Player,
what you lost the remote, and the channel switch didn't work on your set.  These two teams put on a show of grit and determination.  EVERYBODY has the ability to make an error,  look at the MLB or NFP.  It happens that doesn't make the game embarrassing.

the game yesterday was very exciting and nerve wreaking, maybe this was due to the errors committed.

Gators recognized ..........

Kelsey Bruder (Corona, Calif.) and Aja Paculba (Wildomar, Calif.) along with junior Francesca Enea (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and senior Stacey Nelson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) were all part of the first-team roster.-Easton All American list.

These California Gators did well this year.

If the Florida (state) players can step it up......maybe UF can return to the CWS in TWO years.

Note sure if it is the best team which has failed to get the big prize.

Tenn and Texas had better pitchers.

But, Florida is in the Top 4 teams, for sure.
