[rofl]  Walton and me both!  I liked that Tim brought in a couple of pitchers, although I would have thought Lugo would have been the first.

I was surprised as hell that he brought Matthews in to bat - and then to play RF!  I thought she was still recovering from an ACL and thought she was going to miss a lot of season.  Needless to say she dispelled that assumption. [biggrin]

I need to install Periscope on my PC.  Tomorrow is gonna be good!

I thought lugo would have made an appearance tonight. I also hope playing Mathews doesn't bite coach in the butt since she is coming from a recent acl injury. Question to add is there a certain amount of games or innings a player plays in that will make her ineligible to red shirt if she is injured?

I believe ... if a player sustains a season-ending injury with 10 percent of games played or less, they are eligible for that

I like Lugo's style. Seems all the pitchers this year will bring something different.

I was at the Florida - Michigan game today at 11am....
-
Most of the game it looked like the top half of our batting lineup 1-4, was still sleeping, nobody wanted to take the bat off their shoulder...Michigan pitcher also had something to do with it, she looks good....
-
Barnhill likes to stress me out. Barnhill taken out after a couple innings. Ocasio came in and pitched really well and got us back on track.....
-
Reynoso is the spark plug of this team.  Always something positive happening with Reynoso...Walton found a gem with this girl....Hitting and fielding, Reynoso was doing it all.....
-
The bats woke up in the next game against Georgia St.  Gators won 11-0.  Ocasio knocked one out of the park that was a no-doubter....
-
On the new players.  Adams and Matthews look like the real deal. It's still early, but they look like gamers to me....
-
I didn't get to see Natalie Lugo pitched but apparently looked good...
-
I am not sure what is up with Romanello, as she has not practiced and did not play this weekend and Walton not clear on her illness...I was looking forward to seeing Romanello. Hope all is okay with her.
-
On the batting lineup.  Here is what I like. The lineup is peppered with good hitters 1-9. In previous years, you had 1-4 very good and then a pretty big drop off....But this year, looks like a "Rally" could start anywhere in this lineup....
-
Good thing about Reynoso, is that you can bat her 3rd or later in the lineup 7-9, and good things will happen.....

I am only listening on the radio broadcast, but based on their descriptions, she sound like Gourely - good change of speed, hard to hit, small stature, LH.  It sounds like UM has found a good one!  She sure gave UF fits.  I was rather surprised.  With Betsa gone, I was thinking - who's gonna pitch this year?  Now I know.

In Reynoso's first year (injury redshirt), people said she was a very good defensive player, but no one said anything about her offense.  So last year her great defense was welcome, but not a surprise.  Her offense was a pleasant surprise.  So far this year it seems she's building on it.  It would be great to have a SS with a great glove, consistent offense, and clutch when you need it.  Gem is the perfect description.

I was disappointed Lugo didn't get into yesterday's game.  I am glad she made into the GS game.  Again, from the radio she sounded great - a quick worker, didn't waste many pitches, and threw strikes.  I am looking forward to seeing more work from her.

I was listening yesterday when Chronister came in and walked the first batter, so I thought to myself - oh boy, here we go.  Then I lost the feed for the rest of the game.  I didn't get much details on what ensued but she must have finished OK.  Plus I missed the last inning offensive fireworks.  It looks like Matthews will be a strong candidate for DH.

Softball is finally HERE!

What does everyone think of Kelly so far to start the year? Seems a little shaky, Michigan was hitting her pretty good. Thought she would’ve ended with more strikeouts against Georgia State but only got two. Hopefully she improves and gets her composure back

A small sample size but I've been impressed with Kelly's throws to first. Kelsey Horton said on the broadcast she think Kelly thinks she needs to strike out everyone in the line up and instead of relying on her defense. I think once Kelly realizes this and realizes on her defense more the strike outs will definitely come.

KB did seem to get off to a slow start Saturday, but seemed to get it together on Sunday, which I supposed is why Walton used her so much this tournament.  I was rather surprised Walton did not use Lugo more than the 2 innings against Georgia State in this tournament - she was great.

I was pleasantly surprised at Chronister's performance.  I guess that implies Chronister is the undisputed #3.  Was a little disappointed Ocasio gave up 2 HRs today, I guess that comes with the pitcher who pitches to contact.

I am pleasantly optimistic with UF's underclassmen's offense.  Adams is doing well both offensively and defensively.  Reynoso is building her offense from last year and her glove has been excellent.  Hoover is back to her preconference form from last year.  And Matthews' offense ... well she has been nothing short of spectacular - not to mention a great putout assist from RF.  I know Nadia is smiling right now.

Pre-season I had expected a slight letdown in UF's pitching (losing Gourley plus KB will have a hard time topping her last season).  But I thought our offense was going to be a BIG question mark.  Not to count my chickens before they hatch, but I am greatly encouraged by the freshmen's impact - and that's not even taking Romanello's potential once she's recovered.

My only disappointed at this point is Kvistad's slow start at bat.

Do you think kvistad should move down in the line up? Or should she just be a PH until she can get her bat going?

Yes, yes, I agree - no one.  I was just saying she's gotten off to a slow start.  I have confidence she will pick up her at-bats and should stay in the every day line up.

I've always said her defense has been as good as any Gator 1B that I can recall - even Schwartz who was acclaimed as a late inning defensive sub.  In fact I was an early-on proponent of KK replacing TS in the starting line up in her last 2-3 years.

Overall exciting weekend. I'm pleased about our versatility both defensively and (**knock on wood**) offensively. Lots of options all around.

Did not see Ocasio playing CF coming into the year, but I like the simplicity of it. Voss played a strong CF when Ocasio pitched - clearly the best CF on the team. When was the last time a Top 3 NPOY caliber pitcher played some CF too? I love Ocasio's game. The HRs allowed tonight had me worried in the moment, but a little reflection has calmed my nerves. She looked good all weekend and bailed KB out against Michigan.

All I know about the offense today is that Matthews needs to be in the lineup, but I think Hoover plays a more stable/speedy RF. Otherwise, I'm excited for when the seniors start producing. I have faith in Wheaton, Kvistad and DeWitt to be as dependable as always, but I'd really like to see Matthews protect Kvistad and the righties break up the lefty heavy lineup more.

After Week 1:
  1. Adams (L) - 2B
  2. Reynoso (R) - SS
  3. Lorenz (L) - LF
  4. Kvistad (L) - 1B
  5. Matthews (L) - DP
  6. Wheaton (R) - C
  7. DeWitt (L) - 3B
  8. Ocasio (L) - CF/P
  9. Hoover (R) - RF

5 games in but I'm really loving Adams and Mathews both are contributing big as freshmen. I hope lugo gets to start Wednesday or get a couple more innings. I saw Danielle in uniform at the usf game so I'm hoping she'll also play Wednesday. I'm also happy to see Katie get innings.
