<< Occasional home run hitters. >> (3LT)

If Mendes ends up with twice as many HR as Ocasio in 2018, would you change your tune (of lumping them in the same category)?
How about three times as many?
How about four times as many?
What would it take to separate them, in your mind?

<< Put your shovel away. >> (3LT)

What is that I'm hearing...? Could it be a bit of shovel envy..?

You wish you had my shovel.

I'm sticking with disaster

Their numbers were awful last year

Kelly Barnhill and Delanie Gourley tossing 370 INNINGS of a 0.60 ERA painted it over

I think she'll be in the starting line up regularly. 567 hole. We'll see how she does once the pitcher start getting better if she stays in the line up.

Interested to see if he does have Adams lead off at the tournament next week. And I want to see Romanello....

Left field is kinda open on who will play there, so we will see...

I don't think Lorenz moves to CF.  I think she is OK defensively, but CF needs speed and a sharp glove.  I think Voss or Mann will get the hardest look - and that will be driven by their offense.

Danielle is probably the no. 3 catcher going in, but she is a tall, strong kid with a good swing. I imagine she’ll get her time pinch hitting, relieff catching, and a little outfield. For all the young ones it is a matter of talent and opportunity. Danielle has the talent. Hope to see her play a lot!

Adams. 2b
DeWitt. 3b
Lorenz. C.f.
Kvistad . 1b
Wheaton. C
Roberts. Dp
Ocasio. Lf
Voss/Hoover/romanello. Depends on who's hitting.
Reynoso SS

And as far as the other debate going on. When Mendes is a top 3 Candidate for National POY, then I'll certainly compare them. Until then, not even considering it.

I agree on Lorenz, but she will be the only everyday outfielder at the start of the season because:

-Ocasio will be pitching more than last year.
-Mann, Voss, Hoover, Romanello and Matthews' offenses are all a question mark.

Agreed that Voss and Mann are the better candidates in CF. There are plenty DP candidates for them when Ocasio is pitching, but they can't be dead weight when they are hitting for Barnhill. Or maybe Florida's 1-8 are good enough that they can be. Walton obviously values defense and has won championships with it.

If Lorenz is the everyday CFer, I definitely see plenty of late game subs for her when Florida has a lead. Even McLean got subbed a fair amount for Voss last year.

Sure Ocasio had a much better NCAA softball season than Mendes in 2016. Mendes was still playing high school ball then.
Ocasio and Mendes both played NCAA softball in the 2017 season. Looking at what they both did last season... which one had the better season?
And which one came through big time when all the chips were on the table?

I hope Ocasio has a great season in 2018.
I hope they both get to face each other again in the WCWS.
That would be great fun to see.

Yes.  Walton tries to play the new talent as much as he can to give them a chance to show what they bring to the table in non-conference games.  Then he gives the promising ones a chance to prove themselves in conference games (see Hoover).

I hope Adams, Lugo, Matthews, and Romanello end up contributing - especially offensively.  We will need it if we are to go to the WCWS.

Agreed.  Florida's defense has historically been among the best nationally.  And it has won more than a few games for them.  But offense in the past couple of years has been consistently inconsistent [crazy], so it would be very welcome if a couple of the new talent could contribute.

????  Isn't this Ocasio's senior year?  Are you hinting Ocasio will be redshirting?  Can you even redshirt in softball?

At first I thought you were implying that one or both teams wouldn't make post-season, so they couldn't face each other.  But I think OU is a no brainer, and tho UF has a lot to prove I certainly think they have a good chance.

So then I thought you were implying one of the players had a season-ending injury.  But then it dawned on me Ocasio is a senior.  So I am baffled by your remark.

3LT is saying that we will not find out if Nicole Mendes will ever become a top line NCAA pitcher...
until next year (the 2019 season) because Oklahoma has a very deep pitching staff that remains intact for the 2018 season.
He is not talking about the hitting or base running or defensive abilities of Mendes - just the pitching side of it.

I think Adams will be in the lineup regardless she seems very promising and she's a very protypical UF hitter

Hannah Adams will bat lead off and Danielle has some type of illness and won't play this weekend. Starts around 27 minute http://floridagators.com/sports/2015/12/10/_gatortales_.aspx

From that interview and the interview with Kvistad last week, there is a lot of talk about the power and pop in this offense. We haven't had that in a while. Walton described it as a "walk, hit, 3 run HR" type offense. That's exciting!

In addition to the comments on Adams and Romanello, he said Lugo would be getting time in the circle and they're having to play Matthews out of position since their infield is so deep. I definitely expect Matthews to be in the hunt for RF or LF along with Mann, Hoover, Romanello and Voss.
