I have much respect for Walton, but last year he all but ignored her offensive prowess.  Considering last year's anemic offense, I believe she would have made a significant difference.  Let's hope he takes advantage of his bench and plays productive players.

Florida pitcher Barnhill was throwing some of her pitches at 76 MPH against Michigan today.  Don't see that very often... I can't remember someone throwing heat like that...I think Gourley has better movement but a lot of batters have trouble with the heat from Barnhill....

I heard those Michigan kids on the web broadcast quoting that number. I would hate to get pulled over by campus cops using the same gun.

USF gun is about 4 mph too high. But she was a legit and consistent 70-71. Gourleys on another level right now.

That gun has been off for years. I guess that makes them feel good.

67-68, topping out around 70. She looked good today. Control was a problem for her last year but, at least today, really wasn't an issue. Just watching online this felt like a postseason game. Sounded like a great crowd was on hand for both sides. And both teams have a lot to be happy about, but also plenty to work on. This type of game will benefit both teams. Great fielding and pitching, and each team had their chances.

I was there and she was hitting 70 more often than not. But I agree. She looked like she had no control issues. Good sign.

That game was exciting, but hard to listen to:

The Good:
1. I am very pleased that Barnhill had minimal control issues.  Except fo 1 inning, it sounded like she was throwing strikes when needed - unlike last year when she would be cruising fine and then all of a sudden she'd lose it - throwing the ball all over the place typically around the 3rd or 4th inning.

2. I am encouraged by Ocasio's performance in the circle, defensively, but especially offensively.  I think she will blossom into a Heager type of player - not necessarily the numbers, but the triple-threat role she will play in winning games.

3. Our pitching - what else is there to say?

The Bad:
1. The offense today (both games) was sorely anemic with 2 or 3 left on base (too many innings).  I know Walton says about LOB, "At least we got baserunners", but I hope the newcomers will gain some traction.  They are reminiscent of the 2016 offense.  I know UM is a great team and I give them (and Betsa) props, but we gotsta score runs in at least some of those situations we whiffed on.

Gators have two games on Sunday. Delaware and USF.  USF playing Michigan tonight and they are tied up 4-4 in the 6th...... I would like to see  Katie Chronister on Sunday...we will see.

Gators run rule USF in six, 8-0. Barnhill strikes out twelve, gives up a hit, and only had two full counts. Homeruns by Lorenz and DeWitt. Good start to the season!

After listening to today's games (Delaware St & USF) I feel much better about the good offensive production.

1.  The underclassmen had good offensive production.  The veteran's rebounded from yesterday's dismal production against UM.  This is the main concern for UF this year (imho).
2.  I am also pleased with a repeat of Barnhill's performance (apparently good control, 1 hitter, 12 K's).  She pretty much cruised thru USF.  This was my other concern for 2017.
3.  Also Chronister pitched very well (55 pitches, 1 hitter), and Walton even gave her an at bat (BB).  She supposedly is a good hitter.

Life is good.

Gators had some offense issues against Michigan, but I think that was more because of Michigan pitcher Betsa....What I like so far is that the Gators have some big bats up and down the line up.... So even if a couple batters are off that day, they have others to pick it up and then some...
Katie Chronister looked good...Great win vs USF....

Yea Florida never looked solid vs besta. It's early but I have a great feeling about this team. It feels like it's going to be a great year offensively.

You are probably right, but we will rely on our pitching staff, especially when we face good off-speed pitchers and run production is low.

Fla, picked at #4 in several polls! Hard to believe when you look at their pitching staff. With the talent and coaching staff on this team, it would take a fluke like last years loss to Ga. to stop this bunch. Will not happen!! They will catch up to the so called off-speed pitching problem everyone seems to think will slow them down.

A couple of things. Janell Wheaton really struggled at the plate this past weekend. But the good part is that it's the start of the season. Janell will get this worked out... Also, none of the pitchers would pitch to Kayli Kvistad.  They wouldn't put a pitch anywhere near over the plate...They either walked her or hit her.  Kayli's "On Base Percentage" must be off the chart. Every time I turned around, Kayli was on her way to 1st base...

I'd imagine they're back to #1 in both polls tomorrow.

If current production can stay anywhere close to where it's at now, Florida's offense could be special if/when Wheaton gets rolling.

The schedule the next 2 weeks before Judi Garman and SEC play should provide ample opportunity to get the offense going and the confidence up for Wheaton and the freshmen.

Jacksonville
Northwestern State x 2
Maryland
FIU
FAMU
Syracuse
Fordham
Liberty
Elon
Lehigh

Jacksonville may put up a challenge. They are 4-1 and have a really good pitcher.
Also for any Florida/Jacksonville fans the game tomorrow will be streamed live on espn3

Anyone who saw the games care to comment on the HBP accumulated by Florida and how many were suspect in the opening week?  I did not see any games.

I saw the tourney and it didn't look like an unusual number. I checked later and we had 124 ABs, 32 BBs, and 6 HBPs.. No one seemed to step into one but no one was becking away.. Florida pitchers gave up 0 HBPs and had 1 wild one.

Why isn't any of Florida's games this weekend on ESPN3 or SECN+ ...? Does it come down to what the SEC chooses to show?

Anyone else having trouble getting the espn3 link to actually play the video?

Yes in the beginning I had to close out and reopen the link
Although I do like muting the game and listening to
Adam and Kelsey play by play
Which I can't because the actual game is slower than the radio broadcast

You can synch-up the video and radio broadcasts by hitting the "pause" button on the radio broadcast if the radio is ahead of the video.  If the video is ahead of the radio then I don't know what you can do.

Interestingly, after each commercial break the video and radio do not maintain the same relative synch.  So you may have to synch-up after every break.
