that was a bad ball to the face hit. Unfortunately she wasn't prepared what so ever for a come back ball, but had time to be ready. I see many pitchers like this, not enough time of the field practicing for the comeback. the mask shouldn't be mandatory but can help out non-defensive pitchers

3rd time in a month.

"Hendrickson was airlifted to a hospital in Evansville. Her face was broken in multiple places.  School officials confirmed that Hendrickson is the third player in her region to be hit in the face by a line drive in just one month."

I don't know which girl hit the ball, but the lineup she was facing has several soon-to-be college players on it, including one going to Alabama and another to UK.

To that point, not wearing a mask can result in not just the pitcher being hurt. Batter has to carry that with her

Batter has 0 responsibility to the pitcher in this case.

I think the point he was making was that once a batter lines a ball into a pitchers face or chest, or wherever else, they take that with them mentally. It affects everyone

I'm not sure how I feel about making masks mandatory. But I will say I hope and believe we'll see more and more young girls wear them from early on and keep wearing them through college. They really can make a huge difference if the worst happens and it seems to be happening more and more.

I think what does need to stop is coaches and other players and former players making comments about girls who choose to wear them. I had a heated Twitter discussion a few years ago with a well known former college player who made some nasty comments about Kaitlin Inglesby wearing a mask and even after she was told she wore it because she WAS hit and badly injured continued to make comments. There's no place for that attitude. Having a different opinion is fine but calling people names and saying they are weak because they wear a mask is disgusting.

helmet facemasks have been mandatory for about 12-15 years for youth. some wear them some don't in college. so it could catch on as another piece of everyday equipment. But a coach should never say no to wearing one.

This is what happens when you don't wear a mask as a pitcher, corner, or hitter:

A moment of silence would be appropriate.
