I thought you might enjoy this... from FPN (Fast Pitch News)...

Best Shot at the Upset

In our opinion, the team with the best shot of an upset would be Drake. That may come as a surprise to some, but with pitcher Nicole Newman (21-3) in the circle who knows. Newman has been excellent this season posting a 0.62 ERA with 238 strikeouts over 146 innings of work. If she is on, she could keep Drake in the game, and in close games, anything can happen. She owns some wins this year over top 25 teams already, and this is why we think Drake would have the best shot at the upset.

Ok guys, if you're talking about Drake upsetting BYU ye..maybe.

But surely no one is insinuating Drake can upset OR. Are they?

The kid can pitch. Can she pitch three wins in a four-game span?

What a great event.

Well 3left I think it's adorable you taking the high road in consideration of Oregon and all that. Not wanting to be Super Homer is gracious.

So I'll say it. The Newman kid is a good pitcher, not refuting that. But she's never even sniffed a lineup like Oregon which goes 9-deep. Even if it got to that game she might hold OR for few innings but that's it. And Drake hasn't faced a pitching staff like Oregon's either. The more likely scenario is between asking Svekis & all the other All Americans for autographs, she gets lit up. Best advice for her is to wear Kevlar head to toe. The best thing she gets out of that game is experience.

Other than a few decent wins against USF, Tulsa & split with Miss St., Drake beat up on a bunch of avg teams.

Higher probability is Drake get's run ruled by Oregon.

Drake beating BYU would not be an upset.
Drake (#33 RPI) is the #2 seed at this regional.
BYU (#51 RPI) is the #3 seed at this regional.

So... yes, FPN was talking about the possibility of Drake upsetting Oregon.

Anyone see the Drake-BYU matchup being decided by more than two runs.  Guess a score.

Btw,  Who pitches for Oregon tonight.  Miranda,  Maggie or Megan?

3LEFT....So it's been probably 7 years since we stood in the mud...and laughed about softball. Here is to a good strong drink in OKC....not a bad place to end their college careers!

Best of luck you your daughter this weekend

Everyone knows it would take a miracle for a team like Drake to beat a team like Oregon (Drake vs. Duck?). But is it really necessary to be so disrespectful to the underdog and its pitcher, like you did in the above post?

Even Lefty is more gracious than that.

Just turned the game on.  Interesting that Drake is pitching their #2 (or 1.B. I assume they would say).

Mark,

If we both make it, I will hunt you down.

I'll look for that bus!

Damn, six years since the mud bowl!

Don't know, but she's hitting - a HR.

Could be as simple as the #2 had a 1.14 ERA this year and they feel she can beat BYU and leave Newman rested for Oregon.

Everyone talking about Good and Saile and what about them landing elsewhere.

Newman will be a redshirt senior next year.

Congrats thus far to the Albany pitcher, though. Most of us are Albany who? But this kid on a four-seed East Coast team is a fighter. Good for her, regardless of outcome.
