I'm new to this site, and have been happily reading and participating in great discussions about softball. For the past few days, I’ve been enjoying the banter, opinions, and perspectives expressed on a variety of topics. But then I stumbled upon the thread about sexual harassment in the Miscellaneous section, and was hit with some very disturbing language.

Actually, the discussion about this serious topic was quite good......until I read the post by BlueDog  commenting on the issues of intimidation and the sexual orientation of the person doing the harassing. S/he said “Both are sinful...And, sin is evil....But, mankind does have free-will to decide their sexual preference.....To this, I would only tell them they are doing evil.”

Frankly, I am shocked that this type of language is permitted in these discussions. As a Lesbian, I certainly didn’t expect that by participating in the Ultimate Softball message board, I’d be confronted with someone calling me “evil” (Yes, yes, I get it….s/he didn’t call ME evil…just my lifestyle. Sorry, that hairsplitting makes no difference to me).

BlueDog is entitled to his/her opinion, but there are times and places to express those opinions. Doing so in this instance was wrong on both counts. As we all know, there are many Lesbians who participate in softball, as both fans and players, so I’m sure I wasn’t the only person who read those words – in my opinion, hate speech – and felt punched in the gut. While such language is extremely hurtful, I'm 61 years old and can "take it". But it really pains me to think that a young player, who may be struggling to accept her sexual identity, would be confronted with that characterization.

I’m sure these types of comments wouldn’t be permitted on this site if they were targeting, say, a specific ethnic group. Please tell me that gay-bashing language is not tolerated on Ultimate Softball, either. Otherwise, I will be getting my softball info and analysis elsewhere.

No better place than where it is brought up....

"But it really pains me to think that a young player, who may be struggling to accept her sexual identity, would be confronted with that characterization."

The Bible tells us we should have no struggle with this.....Our identity is evident when we are born....To change that identity is disobeying the Creator....I offer the Words of the Creator, not your words....

The Bible tells us the lesbian lifestyle is evil.....I believe the Bible as being the Words of the Creator.....Also, bullying others is evil no matter who is doing it, lesbian, or not.....I could say you are bashing the Words of the Creator, the Bible.....However, I don't think so....I don't believe you know what the Bible tells us....

The reality of 2012 is there is nomatter where you go online or offline race, sexuality, religion, social status, nationality, and political affiliation will come up pro and con and inbetween.
Sucks...but it is a reality. The Misc. section is no-holds-barred for topics and any topic about race,  sexuality or politics will have positive and negative comments. Don't take it personaly unless someone makes it personal (veiled or directly) in which case it will be deleted. Members are protected from harrassment.

Welcome aboard...your feedback, comments and perspective are welcome. Just take a shot of your favorite drink before going into misc. section and wear tall boots to wade thru the crap. Life is a bumpy ride and most of what people say is just venting and blowing off steam. You'll bump into that one person that is your sandpaper (because of you beliefs and things you support and theirs). Don't sweat it. For every negative there are many positives leaning your way. A variety pack mix of everything here. Lots of christians and also several atheists and those who do not believe in a god or organized religion. Many races. political beliefs, etc. All views are welcome.

Once again...welcome aboard
