Discussions on abortion are dead end streets. There is no common ground, your points don't sway me.....regardless how many times you repeat them. I don't think you have the right to tell a woman what she can do with her body. End of my discussion.

It's just that you said previously you thought 20 weeks was the limit.  I wanted to know if you still hold that opinion in light of New York's new law.

I think the common ground is much bigger than all realize.   it is:
- Everyone wants to limit abortions to only what is necessary, except a more extreme element.
- No one wants to criminalize mothers, except a more extreme element.
- Only a few remaining extremists would advocate against birth control.
- Only a few remaining extremist would advocate against at least some mention of abstinence.

Once you lay out the above, the only obvious answer is to limit to 20 weeks (maybe a bit lower, but 20 weeks is acceptable for most of the US).   And rebuild our adoption system.  These are quite easily the best courses going forward.

No surprise that New York was a bit more extreme in opening the limits.  They are who they are.

I said, from a legal standpoint, 20 weeks sounds like a fair compromise, I probably could live with 24.

Some day our country will look back on the 20 or 24 week discussion like we looked at negros being worth 3/5.

Just like with slavery, hopefully the GOP can save the children whose lives are being ended.

Under the Reproductive Health Act, non-doctors are now allowed to conduct abortions and the procedure could be done until the mother's due date if the woman's health is endangered or if the fetus is not viable. The previous law only allowed abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy if a woman's life was at risk.

An embryo is not a person. The moral busybodies should get a life and stop trying to poke their fat noses into the lives and reproductive decisions of women. Leave women alone. Christian crazies--the loons who think people need to be saved, and so we get missionaries, who go to other countries and other cultures and hand out bibles and say, effectively, "hey, I'm a little whacked on silly 'god' ideas and I want you to be whacked, too."

There's a women's health clinic near my house: you know who stands on the street corner holding up anti-abortion signs? Old men.

Florida bank shooting suspect charged with murder

Zephen Xaver, 21, is accused of walking into a SunTrust Bank branch and shooting dead everyone inside in a ‘random act’

Man with a gun goes inside a bank and shoots everybody inside--dead. No reason--just did it. And to think, guy, 24 hours earlier he was...what? Why, he was a good guy with a gun, in the view of rubes and the pro-gun crazies. Unfortunately, he became a bad guy with a gun, and now 5 (more) innocent people are dead. Add 'em to the list--thoughts and prayers, eh!

I find atheists more curious than religious types.  So sure.  So cocky.  So full of themselves to the point of being smug.  They for sure know exactly what everyone knows you cannot fully know.

Something magical happened somewhere, and yet here you are kaploo.

Absolutely incorrect.  At the point that fertilization takes place, new DNA is created in that living being.  DNA that is unique to that person.

In New York, it is now legal to abort a baby just days before it is due to be born.  That's a fact.  They abort the baby by giving it a lethal injection, which is not allowed to be administered to convicted murderers.

Think about that.

Don't forget - atheism is a religion just like any other.  It requires faith.

Watched a good interview on TC last night, had a guy pushing the New Green Deal on. TC pressing him on Tiny Dancer's declaration that we must eliminate all fossil fuel usage within 12 years. TC asking him how that will look for the USA when we don't have Agriculture, Air Travel, Autos. Asked him why Wind Farms are always in rural America, and not on the windy beaches of Malibu. Of course, replies were vague, off topic, parroting nonsensical bullet points of democrat jibberish.

One fun fact: The largest Solar Farm in the world covers 4,000 acres. That's 4 times the size of Central Park. That farm doesn't even generate enough power to run the NYC subway system.  I'll interpret that to mean that at this time, we have zero ability to realistically believe that Solar will ever be scalable to our current needs.

From where I sit, the AOC/fringe liberals are correct, in the sense that we MUST ratchet down the use of fossil fuels and wean ourselves off of them, and asap. We can be adults and do it at a pace that we have some control over, or we can continue to act like the supply is unlimited and never-ending, and then we can be 'surprised' when it starts to go empty and no scalable alternative is possible.

As you say, you can't completely eliminate fossil fuels without eliminating the airline industry.  The way to substantially reduce fossil fuels is to aggressively develop nuclear.  It's the only way to supply the necessary power.

That's a bingo. The only viable path is immediate and full commitment to developing regional nuclear and regional distribution grids, and renovating our rail system.

Nuclear remains a sound choice for sure.  Pushing to rails is definitely preferred to freight by truck.

Moving from Coal to Natural Gas is helping tons, considering we used to burn off the NG, this is almost free from the reduction in CO2 aspect.

Renewables continues to come along.  But Fossil Fuels will remain important for the foreseeable future.  Our carbon output is dropping faster than anywhere else on earth.

Dems are hopelessly naive.  No fossil fuels and residents of our northern states all die off in this latest cold snap.

Practical economic pursuit of solutions to this problem will be developed over time.
