'Civilization' also allows humans to be intensely creative, as they no longer have to spend mental energy on issues that all prior humans dealt with in Nature as they evolved. Over the thousand year run of a 'Civilization', humans create many orders of magnitude more of the products of culture (religious traditions, art, etc.) than their non-civilized counterparts.

Unfortunately, without the corrective feedback of Nature, humans make bad global and regional choices. Without the negative feedback loops of Nature to correct us, we don't notice that failure is taking place. We live a self-feeding delusion that always collapses.

A metaphor from the plant world will help:
Civilizations are Annuals, putting all of their energy into one glorious flowering process, then going to seed and dying, while non-civilized societies are Perennials, flowering less spectacularly, but remaining green and alive thereafter.

Damn, that was very thought provoking. We're an annual? Maybe

I'm crafting a foundation here. Glad you liked this footing.

Think about how we have excluded Nature from our lives, in direct opposition to hundreds of thousands of years of evolution. Our brains don't like that.

We surround ourselves will bogus postiive feedback about our world. The feedback that is created by us. It's all an illusion. And we know it, we just usually can't see it.

When you get that occasional momentary mental flash of consciousness, and uncertainty, that is your evolutionary brain reaching out. Don't ignore it.

Enjoy it while it lasts. If you get your 4 years of trump........no more flora. No more fauna. No more, well, anything. The two emotionally damaged egomaniacs will bring the world as we know it to an end. Hope Kelley was being nice today when he said his job is not to restrain trump, otherwise, Blue may have his much awaited apocalypse.

Perennials often need a bit of help to be coaxed back to life, after a taxing winter, or at times whacked back to make them behave after a mild winter. Annuals are a one time shot in most climates. Keep spending enormous amounts of money to make things look artificially pretty for the season, but absent the cash, and constant attention to their care, they die off and disappear. Perennials keep resurfacing every year, finding a way to keep surviving, even sprouting up where you don't expect them to be. I think a visual has been imparted upon the left. Without constant care and money, you disappear.

It is all a simulation.  The glitches are prevalent and well documented.

Tell that to Little Rocket man and the Orange Bungler. They seem to have a different idea about how to bring about the destruction of mankind.

This response just sums up what a infantile person you are, lacking any simple social skills but having an abundance of arrogance and perceived self worth.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. Your futile attempts to discredit me might work in the circle, but I am confident in the truths that are belittled by your hollow comments. Attack the messenger, especially when your own statements hold no truth. The circle holds such distrust and a fearful eye on society, their proposed solutions are the very definition of infantile. It will take more than huffing and puffing to silence me.

Trump has done a good job agitating the swamp.  Probably not going to drain it, but has that flitting around like a pack of mad hornets.

Graycie is in and out right now, so the thread will wonder a bit till he gets back.  He will straighten it out for you.  scroggers are but a mere nuisance to a strong high energy person like EG.

As the American Empire declines, a great many people are only willing to hear answers that 'allow' them to keep on enjoying the absurd extravagance that passes for an 'ordinary lifestyle' enjoyed by the industrial world's privileged classes. Hence, unrealistic and illusory claims of vague future SCALABLE renewable energy sources.  That would be the 'technology will save us' group.

These current lifestyles are only possible because the world's industrial nations have burned through half a billion years of stored sunlight in 350 years.

Our orgy of consumption was enjoyed by a relatively small fraction of the global population, and as the easily accessible reserves of fossil fuels run short, the party will end.

The math of "fossil fuels required/global energy usage" seems absolutely irrefutable to me. The math is simple. So, it forces most normally logical people to go to an illogical place. That disappoints me but I will continue to bang the drum.
