We already went over peak oil concerns.

Trust me, i was there from 1976 to 1987 it was nothing but non stop freeze death of the Earth from the environmental left.  The environmental scientist 100% reported that they all had confirmed consensus that all the data was pointing to the exact same thing.  That the mass of human activity was causing the environment to go into a tizzy and we were on the very edge of the tipping point of no return.

Funny thing was that their conclusion on the fix was exactly the same.  We must immediately adopt full on global socialism, so that governments can come take all of our working capital, all that is ours, and section that out to us cause they know what is best.   This is all done with a firm scowl on their faces and lots of finger wagging.  They then turn around get on their private jet and fly to the next group they can wag their finger at.

You can tell this all fake.  As they reject common sense practical easy to pursue market based solutions.  Such as fleet LNG.   Nono they say, that is not enough.  That is still carbon based, blah.  global socialism is the only answer they say.

They also reject common sense long term funding in the physics problems at hand.  Solar, battery tech, hydrogen, nuclear.  Yet the 15% of our power coming from renewable sources shows us that there are practical and ongoing market driven solutions that are going in the right direction.  We just need to be better work in a sane fashion together.

Instead of $250M in Solendra, a technology that was not ready, they should have put that money back into physics departments through DARPA, solving specific materials and tough physics challenges.

Don't really care if we are tipping point or coming up on it, or if it getting hot or now getting cold, or going to get hot in some places or get cold in others.  All does not matter.  We need to work together on affordable market driven solutions to reducing our impact on the environment.

"One of the lessons of history is that the decline and fall of every civilization (including ours) follows roughly the same track down, but the journey back up to the new generation almost always breaks new ground."

I think that many people are anxious when discussing the post-industrial future of this country because they only see two possible scenarios-continuing 'progress' into infinity (which they know is illusory), or a total collapse into the dark ages of the far past. Earlier posts in this thread discussed 'technology suites', and here are 7 that if carried forward into the next couple of centuries, will greatly help our descendants in remaking their world.

1-Organic intensive gardening
2-Solar Thermal technologies
3-Sustainable wood heating using Coppicing techniques
4-Sustainable health care-local practicioners/holistic
5-Letterpress movable type printing
6-Low-tech shortwave radio
7-Mathematics using slide rules and non-computer tools

So pick one and get started figuring it out.

I will take slide rules.  Had to do them in college.
I am kind of doing Solar Thermal right now as well.  Put my coffee on the window seal to keep it warm while I think through this reply.

I built one of these back in college.  It is easier than you think to pickup fm signals.  Broadcasting can be quite a bit more tricky.  https://makezine.com/2007/09/17/how-to-build-a-crystal-sh/

I have 1-4 covered. Not sure I willl have any need for the others in a Fuedal system of Anarchy. I do have a water well independent of electrical power, a ton of catfish, 1000s of rounds of ammo, an arsenal, i have a hoard of antibiotics and other pharmaceutical goodies. I can farm, I have solar panels batteries, and hundreds of gallons of diesel and gasoline and 5 small generators. I think I can survive the non fuel demise for the short term. In the long term, I will produce alcohol fuel to power what the sun won't cover. The rest of you guys are pretty much screwed and will be drinking ditch water and dying of dysentery. Enjoy your demise. I have four days to ditch my place before the hoard arrives. I will have bugged out by then, have a 4 wheel drive truck with over 100 gallons of fuel, and weapons at my Alamo in the hill county. I will survive and my spawn will as well. Enjoy city life.

Hot damn, Woodrow, now you're talking my language! I hope that bugout 4x4 is pre '76 or so, don't want the EMP to F your plans up. (Although since it's you, your garage might already be a massive Faraday Cage haha)  Also, maybe do me a favor and establish a good Amateur Radio setup out there at the Ranch? Also pick up a couple of these for local use.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015D9F5M0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

After the lights go out, I'm hoping that me and a few of my closest USA-based friends will have amateur radio bases in their homesteads so we can stay connected.  No license necessary [wink]

Now you need the BIG powerful desktop radio setup with the tower antenna. I'm getting me one of those also.

Some of us were trying to figure out defensive positions at Alamo. We have the dirt access roads leading to the main gate covered by high towers. The downside is people slipping in from the open brush. Any light, or Camphouse smoke is a magnet. If we have to go dark so be it.

I have an excellent book to recommend. Fiction, a good read, lots of similarities to what you are describing. I'll PM you with details.

Only if you desire to have your family slaughtered by the kind and gentile occupants of your "community" that will be helping you out during a large scale crisis. Don't be stupid, and don't be an idiot.

Please open your doors to everyone once all the looting and pillaging of local stores has occurred and the only means of survival is what is rotting in your non functional refrigerator. I salute you SJW. Enjoy the agonizing death you bring upon your family by believing in the good of your fellow mankind. Maybe you could all grow a community garden, and see how that works out for you.

So Woodrow State of emergency declared. You're holed up in the compound and the government sends in the militia to confiscate  your arsenal , do you go all David Koresh on them?

Roger that. After the power goes down or some other calamity happens, the SJW's will end up locking their doors when the horrifying reality that they are defenseless and without food and water sinks in. Door locks will be meaningless, as will their belief in the goodness of their fellow mankind. If my kid is hungry, I'm taking your food. That will be the rule of law.

The gov wont be sending any military personnel to individual homesteads, they will briefly try to protect their own base, but all command and control will shortly collapse when the troops go home to take care of their own families. They will simply walk away, as will other gov workers and first responders. It will be every man and woman for themselves.

After 2 days, I already bugged out to the Alamo. I anticpated police and national guard would rob me of everything, so like many people like me, I have food, weapons and ammo buried, and stashed along my route, and at my final destination. What will you do to ensure the survival of your family? Begging and pleading for food and medicine from the Federal government never crossed my mind. You are the weak, the dead.

My family will survive your urban collapse. We will survive as we always have. You will be chattel, your children as well. I and my children will live as free people, unbeholden to the strife you will have placed upon your family because of the false belief you have in humanity and a benign government. You are a fool, and will be slaughtered along with your loved ones. My family will survive.

If things get really bad, as in societal chaos, and some day it will happen, food and guns will do no good.........

There will be protection for a select few, but, it won't come from anything man-made...........

Your  "I will survive" rants would be more entertaining if put them in video form with Gloria Gaynor singing in the background.

Real preppers don't brag on social media sites because it de-bugs your secret bug plans.

Blue - I will agree with you on one thing. When the Rapture comes, Smith and Wesson and Chef  Boyardee wont save you. Can I get a Amen.

The social fabric (and social contract) of this country is stretched SO much thinner than the Rudy's of the world want to believe. Rudy and fresh are counting on the kindness of strangers and local police to protect and feed  their families when that social contract gets voided.

Never expressed that opinion Eurl. Had you and others paid any attention to my posts, you would known my thoughts on authority. Instead many of you rushed to judgment void of factual information, just to revel in your " I'm smarter than you posts". If you and your compadres  haven't figured out by now, it's the old tried and true divide and conquer ploy. Crazy idea, we all join together, despite our differences, and once again make the country for the people by the people. As for the military and pigs, just pawns for ultra-elite. Find out the hard way. Blue, I believe you know  from your Viet Nam years how the game is played.

I apologize. On a topic like this, when a man is referencing Gloria Gaynor and chef boy r dee, then closing with a request for an amen, I assume they are just trying to be clever and actually have nothing of respectful substance to add to the conversation. Sorry about that, I guess nuance gets lost thru the internet sometimes.
