Another selection that would seem to defy some logic it may seem.

Coach Garza and her staff did a great job last year returning to the NCAA Tournament.

However, they lost their 3 best hitters and the conference pitcher of the year to either graduation or transfer. Dung had 63% of their innings last year. Really they are down both Dung and Juarez from where they projected to be with their pitching staff in 2018 (if you looked at them a few years ago). Hard to replace those horses in the circle unexpectedly in the era of early verbals.

I mean you would think CSM would realize these things and not rank them in the Top 33 teams.

Hard to think that they lost the conference pitcher of the year to transfer and that their 4th best returning hitter hit .233 with 1 HR and 5th best hit .203 with 1 HR and that they should be considered the 33rd best team. They were the the 48th best RPI team at the end of last season, they lose all of those pieces (and a couple unexpectedly) and they are going to now be the 33rd best team.

Would love just a little bit more effort on the research end.

And their final top-two regional seed is....

Arkansas

http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/15549

So, if Oklahoma were No. 1 this season, it would be a bus-distance-pure and bracket-pure matchup

And speaking of poor research, the same write up correctly identifies Madison Yannetti as a departing player and then claims that she is likely to be one of the Hogs’ top power hitters.

Which would be quite a feat! Plus, Yannetti had some pop to her bat, but I wonder if they don’t mean Ashley Diaz, who actually has good power (12 HR as a freshman, though she definitely had a sophomore power slump last season with just 3).

Oh well.

I guess the only other thing that surprises me about this is that they have the Hogs behind the Gamecocks (and maybe UGA), but that’s certainly just a matter of opinion.

Don't know much about Arkansas, but it is finally nice to see them have a team in the ranking that returns pitching. It seems like year in and year out they put teams in their ranking that have lost a majority of their pitching. In a game where so much depends on pitching it just seems like that would be one of the first variables they look at to rank teams.

Arkie fielded a pretty game team at last year's Norman regional. This year will be mostly about the pitching, as it is with everyone. Thing I respected was their fight. They came out swinging.

Justin's World of Softball is doing conference forecasts.  Higher level in that it doesn't go through every team, but way more accurate and knowledgeable about teams and players, from what I can tell.

I don't know much about them either, but I guess I'm about to.  I can very comfortably say I'm excited to watch Storms pitch in person.

UNC will battle it out for the ACC championship and they are number 31? Where's FSU in these rankings?

Easily Top 15, especially with the addition of Hanson to help out King in the circle

UNC is not battling FSU for anything unless Kylee doesn't come back fully AND Meghan doesn't pitch.

Heels lost one of the Mount Rushmore players in their history in Kendra Lynch, who is now a grad assistant at FSU

True!

Pickett is decent in the circle, but she can’t hold off FSU on her best day

I’m just glad to see them on there!

We lost a lot in the circle, but I’m excited to see what our new comers can do, and I’m hearing good things about our hitting coach. We shall see!

Cal is a team i would like to see rise again, but clearly the school cares nothing about their facilities. Worst in a P5 conference imo. No recruit wants to play in that

My understanding is that a new complex is in the works, but it’s all tied up in legal paperwork. A similar problem I hear UCLA is dealing with for their upgrades as well.

They cared about facilities upgrades once at Cal and it didn't turn out so good.

Who else do they have in the top 15 from the B1G? Nebraska, Northwestern, Illinois?

The other three will certainly be Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota.  The latter is also number one in midwestfp's pre-season rankings.

I wish Michigan and Minnesota would schedule a non-conference doubleheader. This is getting ridiculous not playing.

Never understood the rotation of who plays who. There are some schools that face each other almost every year due to geography but I know in my kids 4 years in the B1G they never played Ohio State
You would think MI and WI would play just because they are close to each other and makes travel easy

Based on fall ball results (which may not be worth much consideration), that’s far too high for Oklahoma State. Really think they are thin in the circle. A couple transfer pitchers, but I’m not sure how they’ll hold up in the B12. Shippy is a stud, but I just don’t the remainder of the lineup putting them in the top 25.

But that’s why they lace them up and play the games!

Also: the Sun Devils come in at #23.

I know it's a poll and thus an opinion, but seeing all these teams in front of UGA is kinda shocking.

Am I missing something with Illinois? They had a decent record, but with a quick glance at their results last season, they lost to every ranked team they played except taking 1 out of 4 from Minnesota over the year. Do they have someone coming in that is expected to contribute?
