After watching the ACMs tonight, it is official, Country Music is dead.  The industry once stood out due to standards and was not intended to be pop, rap, rock, ...  Now, it is rare to hear any true country song.  Tonight, I was reminded of the terrible pop music of the 70s much more than good or decent country songs.

We were out on the porch enjoying the scenery and I walked into the house to hear someone called Old Dominion on the TV, Nashville has ruined country music. Mostly we listen to red dirt music, Randy Rogers, The Great Divide, Wade Bowen, Josh Abbott. Then again I used to by my Chris Ledoux cassettes from the local saddle shop.

Even as a SoCal kid I listened to country on and off. This current crap is nothing but top 40 with a cowboy hat.

I have a three to four hour drive twice every other week.  A listen to a variety of things including Ben Shapiro's podcast.  Last week, it was the best of Merle Haggard and that drive sure went by fast.

Pabar, Merle is who brought me to country, saw him live 1 year before his death, he was out of breath but when he sang Silver Wings 20 feet in front of me, I was carried away in his voice.

My Dad was the type who would listen to Grand Ole Opry EVERY Saturday night, Porter Wagner Show, Hee-Haw, Faron Young, Ray Price, Patsy Cline all favorites of his.  I was the typical Top-40 as a kid, R&R as a teenager and 20 something.  Then... Merle, Willie, Johnny Cash, Crystal Gayle, Johnny Lee, Don Williams brought me home to Country.

Merle Haggard took home the first-ever Entertainer of the Year award at the ACM Awards in 1971, during a hot streak right after the release of both "Okie From Muskogee" and "Fightin' Side of Me."

Merle's voice was incredible. Don Williams' I Believe in You is still one of my all-time favorites.
