I see Charlie "tax cheat" Rangel will have to appear for trial before the house for his many infractions. I hope he gets raked over the coals, but I kind of doubt it.
My guess is that , while Congressional ethics violations are things that would be called crimes if you or I did them in the real world & most likely would land us in jail, not that way in the wonderful halls of congress[ BY THE WAY NEWEST POLL SHOWS 11 % of us TRUST THEM]. I bet Rangel will get a slap on the wrist, decide to retire & live in one of his 4 rent stabilized apts. in NYC, his condo in the Caribbean & do it all on full Gov paid pension & " SPECIAL" congressional health care. When you see this happen...remember he wrote MANY of our tax laws,a great # of the laws in HC & if he'd have been Madoff,he'd be in jail for his actions with Fannie & Freddie.

What's sad is I don't see alot changing, even in 2010. Recent polls I saw showed Harry ' tell the truth" Reid in a dead tie with Ms. Angle, Charlie " turncoat" Crist in a tie with Rubio, Principled conservative Whitman tied with " moonbeam" Brown & Boxer having an established lead over Fiorina....Cali, Don't be calling on Mizzo to bail you out if you elect those 3 loonies, I say you reap what you plant.

And to show you I'm not just slamming the left, while the Republicans have some very good candidates out there, the GOP is leaderless in the Senate, House & the RNC. Just standing in opposition to Obama will not do the trick & not get voters to vote. Voters need the issues laid out for them & solutions brought to the table. Republicans must stick with the commitment to cut discretionary spending, balance the budget, establish the tax cuts that will bring back jobs & disencumber free enterprise.....we need to ask some of the OLD & even a few of the NEW rhinos to step aside a let the people speak.

Oldscout, the GOP is a ship adrift. They have no contract with America leadership or vision. What should be a slam dunk midterm election is being wasted by ill prepared or total lack of strategy and leadership from within. Steele is an Albatross, and the former Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman who wants Steele's job lost his Senate seat to a retired SNL skit man. What a clueless party. If Gingrich wants to help the party, he should drop his aspirations of being President, and take over the reins of a stagnant GOP leadership.

old scout and woody - Those are two of the most intelligent posts I've read here on Miscellaneous. I keep "screaming" that "it's the system". Political Parties can be painted interchangeably except that the financial corruption flows upward for one and downward for the other. The current "Washington Way" forbids a cleanup unless it has political overtones. We are in serious trouble, and I don't see any viable leadership available in either Party. Maybe a King Arthur will emerge, and maybe not.

If only Charlie Rangel would get raked across the coals. The old schmuck is a pimp. He dresses like one. Him with the 4 rent stabilized apartments in New York City, the beach condo in the Dominican Republic, and his $700 a month Cadillac paid by the taxpayers. This old fart should have the book thrown at him and die in prison like John Gotti.

Two sad additions to PGP's comments.

1. It will never happen!

2. He would get re-elected even if he was in prison!

PGP - Given a twist on an old lawyer joke, one might ask, "What do you call the blasting of Charlie Rangel?" - Answer - "A good start". Charlie's ethics violations are only the tip of the iceberg for Congress. But then again, who is investigating the problem? Only those who would gain Party politically by their findings. Our representative government is corrupted.

Pelosi will be hard at work trying to quietly usher CR out the door. I agree, the guy may be a political liability for other Dems during the upcoming campaign but CR could not even run a campaign and win. Look at Marion Barry's reelection,. At what point does a politician become unelectable? I guess it all depends on the mentality of the constituents.Blagojevich could also get elected even in the jail house.

CR's constituency are a bunch of lowlifes who would sell their mothers for a pack of cigs and a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20. This just goes to show you the hypocrisy on the House of Representatives with the Wicked Witch of the West in charge. This report about the Congressman Pimp should have been done by January 2009 and now it's July 2010. They're burying all Charlie's skeletons right now.

PGP - What you say is absolutely true, but you miss the larger picture. Whether it's Pelosi or some Republican, the culture of the unscrupulous has invaded our representative form of government and has become "The Washington Way". A nation thus represented is in trouble, and it certainly is not what the founding fathers envisioned as their answer to England's blood line throne "government". Who judges the judges, and who polices the police??? Moreover, who polices the politicians of whatever Party? We live with a moral and ethical dilemma that manifests itself in a financial dilemma. So it goes.
PS - A guy I know once told me that a fish rots from its head down. I don't mean a President or a Party, but rather the group in our government who control the pursestrings and thus much of the foreign and intranation policy of our nation.

JG - the Dems are dirtier than anyone. They wade out of the ooze that they call the DNC.

PGP - I completely disagree. I guess that you and I will have to agree to disagree about that. I shall not use your language, but I've thought it during the NIxon years. I worked in a community (24 years) where Nixon's lawyer and law partner lived, so I am privy to much of the "ooze" there. You are younger. Political Parties (both) are what they have become. When I was pitching, one of my catchers was a Republican Congressman. Great guy! He filled me in on many of the Party's machinations, so I could never assign "most corrupted" to either Party.
PS - I remember so well the words of my catcher. He said that the newbies go into Congress with the idea that they can make a difference, but it soon becomes obvious that the only way to survive is to "Go along to get along". He went into Congress with a small real estate business and emerged as a multi millionaire. RIP.

What is so amazing to me is that no matter who it is,you don't even see leaders from the party of the perpetrator have the guts to come out against them. And also you will see politicians like Rangel hang on to the last minute, pretending like he is not guilty of anything.

Why isn't Pelosi speaking up or even the president, I guess they need his vote the next few weeks.....MAN UP & step down, Mr. Rangel.

Oldscout - The Liberal Progressive Socialist Democratic Party are thick as thieves. They steal from the American People and congregate together in their Caucas conference room to laugh at what they have done. If only during their Caucus could they be taken out by a Special Forces Team. That would be a huge victory for the American People. A Mafia type hit on the whole "Commission".

People forget the "contract with America" that Gingrich and his pals signed on with some years back.....

Gingrich is as corrupt as any of 'em......It's the same old crooked bunch trying to worm their way in when there's a crack in the door....

Gingrich is a party hack for sure. He stood with the GOP candidate against the popular Tea Party candidate and after it was all said and done he manned up and ate crow. Like him or not, he is a loyal GOP member. He promotes the candidate the party selects without question. I do not like that in the man, but as a conservative and as the head of the GOP, he would be a formidable political organizer. This is something the GOP sadly lacks. I am all for some type of  a contract with America part 2. At least the GOP should formulate some type of path they as a party could present to the voting public before what should be a landslide election. Unfortunately they are sitting on their hands with no leadership waiting for the opposing party to make a mistake and afraid to venture forth with a policy of any sort lest they be shot down by the Dem controlled media and the DNC. At this point, I think the GOP is lost as a party, they fear that anything they do or say will be called right wing, big business or  racist. Sitting back and hoping the Tea Party movement will fall in line with the old party line is an iffy proposition at best. All that most conservatives, GOP or Tea Party ask, is some leadership by the GOP, and a return to basic conservative principles in the next 100 days. Please would someone with some type of character step forward.

Gingrich had to resign as speaker of the house once before when he proved he couldn't hold the Republican party together....

We're all sinners, but, old Newt has proven he doesn't resist temptation well.....He has openly philandered, lied and stolen and done them all more than once.....And, there's never been a hint of repentence in the old boy, either.....

I guess you could say old Newt won't run on a campaign of change.....

My only request is that a true conservative step forward and lead the country out of this mess. How about John Kasich who is running for Gov of Ohio? Too much baggage with wall street? Chris Christie? How about Ted Poe? If we do the seniority pecking order via Dole and McCain and pony up another drab candidate I am gonna hurl.

I think these last few posts have swerved into a real truth.

It is time for true conservatives to no longer be ashamed, to no longer worry about Party or power, but to stand out as those who truly work for the people.

No matter what you may think of the Tea Parties, rest assured that GOP and DNC party hacks alike are nervous because of them.  DNC types get nervous because this is a new grass-roots group who is unashamed, will no longer remain silent and will resist any attempt at intimidation and name-calling; GOP types are nervous because most of them have already been brow-beaten and kowtowed into thinking that if they go by their true convictions, they will be called every name in the book and may lose a few points in the almighty polls.

The Tea Party types have revealed that we have a true 'ruling class' in this nation; the 'ruling class' does not care for the Tea Party types (regardless of Party), and vice-versa.

I too, think Newt has too much baggage, but than again don't many of us.

Many including myself have been captivated by the world's philosophy & empty deceit, have embraced human traditions over God's will. yet to me the wonderful part of it all is that with His help " we can receive Christ Jesus the Lord so we may walk in him". Col2:6

In toady's climate, it will be hard to find the right leader[s]....I sure don't see many. Still i prefer not to give up & pray the right person will come around that might be & can stay rooted in Christ.

Oldscout, in the end days as you know, Satan will have many followers.....So many that they will be persecuting true followers of Jesus at will......The Government will team up with the antichrist, who is already here and has been here for a long time, and most people will be fooled by this powerful regime......Satan will be running the show.....As a master deceiver, that person you are looking for just may be Satan, himself.....

Question is, are we in the end days and how can we not be fooled?...Bible prophecy is where to look for the answer.....
