I am new to this message board, but wanted to ask a question to see if anyone knows...

I am a graduate of Western Carolina University and followed very closely the addition of fast pitch softball to the athletic department over the past few years, with last season being the first year of competition. I was very excited to see the team come together as well as it did, winning the Southern Conference championship in its first-ever season.

My question is this... does anyone out there know... have any other FIRST YEAR PROGRAMS won their CONFERENCE REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS in the first year of competition...?

Of course, aside from the first year of a conference... or the first year the sport was offered as that is kind of a given, but anyway -- any insight from the knowledge base would be appreciated!

GO CATAMOUNTS!!!

I am not sure about in the NCAA but last year in NAIA Lubbock Christian (Texas) won the NATIONAL TITLE in there first year as a program.

Let's just forget about all the rumours as to how they did it.

North Dakota State University won the Summit League Regular season title last year but were ineligible to play in the post season tournament.  It was their first year official year as Division 1.
