I have no idea how you can really rank academically.  There are so many factors and requirements.....

I agree with azure on that.

I have found the the College Navigator website is pretty useful for assessing the general admissions requirements of a college which can be an indicator of academic level of difficult.  Again, it's just another data point that helps with the assessment. 

The best indicator is to ask for & review the placement statistics in the students intended major at any institution you are considering.  (That could include acceptances into law school, med school, etc...)  In the end, obtaining rewarding employment in their chosen field is the end goal and that can be achieved at universities with low or high admissions requirements....all depending upon a number of factors.
