I love college FB& watched so many games,I had dream last night of being sacked.
I thought the Alabama vs.VT was a battle.
Mizzo new QB is great & defense is much better than 08,they could be a sleeper.
If OKSU defense holds up like it did against the Bulldogs  ,they could be the team in Oklahoma this year.Even with OU's QB going down,I thought that some of their other leaders would step up,but they didn't.Shows you the importance of a good leader like Bradford.
Iowa lucked out ,BIG TIME...their coach makes more in one year than UNI coach will make in 7-8 years& guess who came to play.Wonder if UNI had not had 5 players suspended[2-3 starters]how it would have went?
The Ohio State buckeyes lucked out.Tressel could have cinched game on 4th/2 with a FG,but didn't.He wazzz lucky.
University Washington didn't pull it off,but they have a great young QB& nice RB in Porter.

Unless the Buckeyes were looking ahead to next week& defense just didn't play up to potential,I don't see them beating USC.
I'll go with Texas as National champs this year, but it's going to be exciting.

old scout - I watch Notre Dame and Florida, so I was a happy camper.
PS - I'm afraid that my pro team, the Buccaneers, will be down this year.

Wait until the primetime battle of the Bloods and the Crypts - The Hurricanes and The Seminoles. It's like they're 2 street gangs fighting over turf. The criminals from Coral Gables will beat the criminals from Tallahassee on National TV. I actually hope the Canes embarrass Bowden and the Noles.

old scout - Rutgers (one of my alma maters) is called "The Scarlet Knights". Temple is called the "Owls". Interesting because I just told my friend who coaches Rutgers softball that his last website picture has "Owls" in the background and folks would think that was his team's name.

Rocklifter, where are you? You are sadly missing after Saturday. We need some good ole UGA pick me up here. I can't lie, that loss just made me quite happy. Well not as happy as the Bama and USC and GT victories did.

I'm another Scarlet Knight alum....big game in a few hours against the Bearcats t home.  This may well tell the story on RU's season.

Schiano - the head coach - has taken the Rutgers football program from being just awful to a bowl contender in his tenure and deserves lots of credit for turning the football program around.

In the past Rutgers was known athletically for its soccer, lacrosse and women's basketball programs.  Football puts schools on the athletic map.

3sDad - Remember way back when when Rutgers went south to play Tennessee, and Tennessee fans posted signs all over saying "What's a Rutgers?". Schianno has given them an answer. Do you follow Rutgers Softball? A good friend is working hard to improve Rutgers Softball. He's been there 3 years now, I think. Like everyone else, he needs a program making pitcher, but his teams are competitive.
PS - "On the banks of the ol Raritan". Cincinnati will be very tough today - good program. I'll be watching on TV.

Frank,

I only got glimpses of the first half as the UC/Rutgers game is opposite the Dodger game.  Every time I tuned in, though, it seems Cincinnati was scoring.  A long day for the Knights.   It's a down year for the Big East.  Some are questioning their automatic inclusion as a conference in the BCS.

3sDad - It's halftime. What's a Rutgers? Yikes !!!! Cincinnatti's quarterback looks like Peyton Manning against Rutgers' defense.

Charlie - Cincinnatti looks good. Or is that "Rutgers looks bad"? South Florida won but was not really impressive in their first game.

Cincy will be a great offensive team this year. That said they lost 10 defensive starters,so they will probably have to outscore a lot of teams.
I like Rutger's coach, hope they don't start like they did last year.

LMUfan - so glad I took Ethier and Broxton on my Fantasy Team.

This year is going to be more brutal than last year. This year will prove that we have no defensive coaching.....our overall coaching staff doesnt prepare the team like is needed....My god we gave up a million points to USC/South Carolina version....(Good thing is seeing Spurrier pee himself...) We let Oklahoma State beat us and they couldnt beat Sister Marys Covent.
I dont mind seening Bama win.....USC is whatever......(Remember I happen to like Pete Carroll....them uniforms lack something....)
Tech and their fans can go to H***........They aint used to winning football games so let them cheer....

Wow, that was a WEAK cheering section after beating a pretty good team.

I should show you all the VT cheering from the Bama vs. VT game. My mom took video, it is RIDICULOUS!

But I would like to hear from UCLA fans that went what they thought of Knoxville. One of those "special" experiences for a visiting team.

Well, "pretty good team" is all relative.  UT only won 3 games last year, UCLA only 4.  It wasn't like this was victory over USC.  UCLA, as a general rule, doesn't travel well.  Meaning that they'd rather watch on TV instead of getting on a plane. We're all tightwads.  Add to that UT doesn't offer up many tickets to visiting teams made for a small blue section. (Photo)  By all accounts for those that went to Knoxville, the UT fans were wonderful, hospitable and pleasant even after the loss.  Apparently nothing line going to the Coliseum or a Raider's game.

That wasn't the question, I wanted to know UCLA fan's thoughts after going to Knoxville, in terms of the city, the stadium (not the interaction between fans per se). And if you think the Coliseum is bad, you have NEVER been to Death Valley. Far and away one of the hardest places to ever go as a fan. They make Florida and USC fans look peaceful.

And I disagree with the UCLA fans don't travel, I witnessed the hoard of UCLA fans coming back from the Final 4 game at LAX. UCLA fans travel, just not for football games.

A win over Tennessee and an ex-Trojan should mean something to UCLA fans, right?

And hey, ya gotta be #1 at something, right?

Ok, here's one of the oddest quotes I've ever seen.  The UT President admits that not only do they get beat on the field, but also in the classroom.  Is this typical SEC thinking?

----------------------------------------------------
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.—The University of Tennessee's interim president has told a newspaper he talked to Lane Kiffin "early on" about the university having more than an athletic reputation, and he also said the Vols didn't just lose Saturday to a better UCLA football team.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that in a Monday meeting with its editors, interim president Jan Simek said "Lane comes from the Pac-10, which is in many respects the epitome of great academic institutions playing great athletics, as this past weekend showed on several different levels, including to us. When we lost to UCLA, we lost to a better academic institution, too."

I love reading people spin the "stories". And in all honesty, if you think the Blount thing was a "good deed" by a Pac-10 you have just about lost your mind. If that had gone unpunished, there would've been so much backlash Nike couldn't get Oregon out of that mess.

I think the UT quote is about fitting with UT.

Yeah, way to point out an on-field vs. off-field incident. One happened while the player was under control of the coach and one happened while the coach wasn't at the event. Very useful. Or is this just a case that no one cares what UCLA football players do because they aren't really good enough for it to matter?

And I don't know who thought Blount wouldn't get a year's probation. Everyone I know thought he would.

I mean if you want to talk about coaches that have gone the distance punishment-wise, lets talk Les Miles and Ryan Perriloux and Frank Beamer and the younger Vick.

As for the Boise State, I understand he incited the punch, but don't football players trash-talk all day long? How often does it lead to a punch like that?

I'd be pissed to as a fan that Rey whipped my team from stem to stern, as well.

From the LA Times, UCLA athletes are just as good:

"UCLA football player E.J. Woods charged with assault
UCLA FOOTBALL
Woods, a freshman from Encino Crespi High, allegedly was involved in three incidents at off-campus apartments between October and January.
By Chris Foster
March 14, 2009

E.J. Woods, a defensive back at UCLA, has been charged with assaulting two female students, the Los Angeles City Attorney's office said.

Woods, a 19-year-old freshman, was charged with two counts of sexual battery and four counts of battery. He could face up to one year in jail for each sexual battery charge and six months for each battery charge."

Whew, wow, that started a riot didn't it.

If you read the articles written about Woods leaving the UCLA program, they have a strong insinuation that he didn't leave because of this event, but because he couldn't make the grades. Or at least that is what I read into his comments about, I'm going to go down to Santa Monica college, and then I'm going to try and get back into a Pac-10 school. If he was found guilty, do you think any Pac-10 school would risk putting him on the team? If it is just grades, then that happens all around the US.

While I have no connection to either team,I say BYU beats Florida State today & Mr. Bowden will be 0-2. I do like BYU QB ,my kind of player.

Oldscout - The Hurricanes have raided every prison in the state of Florida and have put together this team. The real test is next week at Blacksburg versus Va Tech then in 2 weeks a home game against a Sam Bradford-less Oklahoma Team. I am very pumped up about my Hurricanes. Hopefully they can continue putting up crooked number after crooked number in the Win Column and put a hurting on opponents in the process. 2 games against 2 ranked opponents and both conference and divisional games has really showed me that Randy Shannon has these guys hungry and focused. Averaging 35.5 pts in this young season. If Nebraska gave Va Tech a hard time today and Va Tech almost lost to a crappy Nebraska squad, look out Hokies because next week won't be an easy game. The Miami swagger might be back if they can take these next two games. When I saw the schedule first come out I sincerely thought this team would start the season 0-4 (@ Fla St, Ga Tech, @ Va Tech, & Oklahoma). I'm glad they proved me wrong. It's time to revert back to the Jimmy Johnson/Dennis Erickson days of not only beating an opponent but also embarrassing an opponent. Last year they beat Va Tech 16-14 to say goodbye to the Orange Bowl. In 2007, Va Tech beat Miami 44-14 in Blacksburg. Payback's a B*TCH. The same goes for Oklahoma this year when they come to Land Shark Stadium. OU beat Miami in Norman back in 2007 51-13. Time to beat them like the dogs that they are and get some payback on October 3.
