Wins were ugly, too many lob, 17 in the last 2 games. Pitching holding up, but timely hitting is just as important. A .233 team ba not going to get you too far!

Its all about pitching. Pitching will win you championships. Hit .223 against great  pitching or hit .280 against average pitching. Hofstra will be fine once it starts its northern swing.

The hitting will come around; and BTW, the opposition is hitting .159.  The key is the pitching, and more than that, the control that the pitchers are showing.  14 walks in 62 innings and I think I remember three intentionals in there.  Those numbers bring back memories of Lashley and Pirrone in 2015, and BTW, the last CAA title.  Hitting tends to fluctuate, especially this early in the season; pitching and defense (someone I know, who's followed the program for over twenty years, says this is the best defensive team he's ever seen at Hofstra) tend to be constants.  I'm not concerned about left on base; that means batters are getting on base.  I want to see how the young pitchers hold up when the games start stacking up.

9 lob again today. Timely hitting needs to start now, the next weekend trip in March is show-and-tell, leave those ducks on the pond and the will be scalped and come home 0 fer. Right now they do not have a pitcher whose last name ends in I so scoring has to be a priority! 3 starters batting below 200 is not going to help. I want to see this program rise to be a top level mid major again, not just top dog in the CAA. Pitching is very good so far for the talent faced (hitting pressure with risp not very good)

After two weekends of play, I think Hofstra right now appears to be the team to beat in conference - with JMU not too far behind.

The week-plus off before going to the Florida State tournament isn't going to do Hofstra any favors. I'd be surprised to see them beat anyone other than FGCU.

Being the top dog in the CAA is being a top level mid-major. Hofstra would easily win almost any of the mid-major conferences in the northeast every year if they weren't in the CAA. There are going to be ebbs and flows as the pitching comes in and out if Long Island.

Is this a winter break for Hofstra? I see they play today and tomorrow in FL before the break until March 2nd.

I'm intrigued by that scheduling, whether on purpose (they built that free weekend in) or by accident (maybe they got dropped from a tournament) i would venture to guess that the days of practice will keep the players hungry to compete when they get the chance again. Time to heal the body, stay fresh, work on things that came up on the first two weekends.

Cornell had 10 strikeouts against UCF today. It’s just too bad she has no offense supporting her, as HU lost 1-0 and only mustered up 2 hits.

Hofstra has historically had a weekend off in February. They go back and work on issues noted in the previous weeks plays before one last run to the south before the northeast schedule starts.

It's probably budget related.

So MD leaves and his successor and her top assistant have been there for years. I would think the transition would be smooth. Maybe they put in their own ideas and the drama started.

Sarah Cornell currently leads the nation in strikeouts, currently tied with FIU's Shannon Saile, who Hofstra/Cornell beat earlier this season. https://twitter.com/HofstraSoftball/status/966843275910045696

So we are now a few weeks into the season… What’s everybody’s idea on how things are going to shape up come conference time...

I knew our Offense would be strong and that has shown so far... defense is better than expected... overall I’m happy with the teams progress...

I expected Delaware to be better this year but they have not been good so far... what am I missing here? Any surprises for anyone this far?

Ladera, Towson does have a pretty good hitting team. But if you take out just the two games where they played teams with horrible pitching (NC AT and UMBC) their team batting average drops 33 points. Their schedule is relatively weak and certainly not up to par with the eventual winner of the CAA (JMU or Hofstra). They will probably finish 4th or 5th in the CAA.

.033 drop still puts them .036 above the second best hitting team as of right now... [wink] I’ll take it so far! Time will tell I suppose...

Eight more left on base but Hofstra takes down previously undefeated Florida Gulf Coast, 2-1, as Sophie Dandola throws a three hitter with no walks allowed.  Up next is # 13 Florida State.  So far, it's been a pleasure watching the two young Hofstra starting pitchers.  Should be a very interesting season.

Scoreless in the top of the 10th.  Dandola comes in in the bottom of the 9th with one out and two on and gets a double play.
