Over the years look at JMU and Hofstras schedule. They always challenge their teams early so it prepares them for CAA conference play. Unless the team is exclusively  freshmen players.

I think it takes a mix of really good and good teams. Playing low level teams is a distraction and drops the intensity of your team. If you want to say you've won 25 games year in and year out you schedule a lot of bottom of the barrel teams and you get your contract renewed. Also, you can't stay in North and South Carolina for your competition. You do what JMU and Hofstra do by travelling to where the best teams go.

Apologies for asking again, but does anyone know the reason for Irons leaving HU?

She is in team picture, but is not on the roster.

Also, as a Suffolk resident, I had heard good things about Lindsay Ness out of Centerich....Raw, but with potential...She too is not on the roster.

Thank you in advance for your wisdom.

Did anyone here watch the JMU games from Puerto Vallarta last weekend?

I am having a horrible time in my efforts to buy a  subscription from this SportsLive group

Not trying to be a wiseguy but, is it really at of our business?  I'm not trying to be a jackass but I think a 19 year old should be allowed her privacy.

Was able to watch on my home computer but not on my phone as it would crash every time I opened it up.  No replays but the coverage was not horrible.

No problem.

If the reasoning is of a personal nature, I agree that it does not need to be shared on a public forum.

Being that I am only on here during the season, I thought the subject may have already discussed and I simply missed it in my very quick skim of the thread.

Not trying to invade anyone's privacy.  And whatever the specifics might be, I wish her nothing but the best and thank her for the year of service to my alma mater.

Hofstra with two more wins over Texas Tech 3-2 and Fla A&M 1-0. They are now 7-2 on the Fla tournaments.

Wins were ugly, too many lob, 17 in the last 2 games. Pitching holding up, but timely hitting is just as important. A .233 team ba not going to get you too far!

Its all about pitching. Pitching will win you championships. Hit .223 against great  pitching or hit .280 against average pitching. Hofstra will be fine once it starts its northern swing.

The hitting will come around; and BTW, the opposition is hitting .159.  The key is the pitching, and more than that, the control that the pitchers are showing.  14 walks in 62 innings and I think I remember three intentionals in there.  Those numbers bring back memories of Lashley and Pirrone in 2015, and BTW, the last CAA title.  Hitting tends to fluctuate, especially this early in the season; pitching and defense (someone I know, who's followed the program for over twenty years, says this is the best defensive team he's ever seen at Hofstra) tend to be constants.  I'm not concerned about left on base; that means batters are getting on base.  I want to see how the young pitchers hold up when the games start stacking up.

9 lob again today. Timely hitting needs to start now, the next weekend trip in March is show-and-tell, leave those ducks on the pond and the will be scalped and come home 0 fer. Right now they do not have a pitcher whose last name ends in I so scoring has to be a priority! 3 starters batting below 200 is not going to help. I want to see this program rise to be a top level mid major again, not just top dog in the CAA. Pitching is very good so far for the talent faced (hitting pressure with risp not very good)

After two weekends of play, I think Hofstra right now appears to be the team to beat in conference - with JMU not too far behind.

The week-plus off before going to the Florida State tournament isn't going to do Hofstra any favors. I'd be surprised to see them beat anyone other than FGCU.

Being the top dog in the CAA is being a top level mid-major. Hofstra would easily win almost any of the mid-major conferences in the northeast every year if they weren't in the CAA. There are going to be ebbs and flows as the pitching comes in and out if Long Island.

Is this a winter break for Hofstra? I see they play today and tomorrow in FL before the break until March 2nd.

I'm intrigued by that scheduling, whether on purpose (they built that free weekend in) or by accident (maybe they got dropped from a tournament) i would venture to guess that the days of practice will keep the players hungry to compete when they get the chance again. Time to heal the body, stay fresh, work on things that came up on the first two weekends.

Cornell had 10 strikeouts against UCF today. It’s just too bad she has no offense supporting her, as HU lost 1-0 and only mustered up 2 hits.

Hofstra has historically had a weekend off in February. They go back and work on issues noted in the previous weeks plays before one last run to the south before the northeast schedule starts.

It's probably budget related.

Word is the only Junior on the JMU roster has quit the team citing a toxic atmosphere and in essence that "the inmates are running the asylum".   Sad to hear but not surprising.  Hope they can figure it out and come together or it might be a long season in the burg!

So MD leaves and his successor and her top assistant have been there for years. I would think the transition would be smooth. Maybe they put in their own ideas and the drama started.
