I can't see any transferring to Auburn, unless they are studs. Like Good

I would think Dean was real careful and there was some sort of "understanding" when he decided to leave about pilfering his current roster, especially Good. And no doubt there are a few kids on the current roster who could easily play for him @ Auburn. Just because it's Auburn doesn't necessarily mean the talent is automatically better. Remember, he beat SEC schools enough during his tenure @ JMU...

I bet he'd love to have some of his now 'former' JMU players to help "install" his team culture into the Auburn program.

What will be interesting is when some of his former commits want to change their mind & follow him to Auburn. Big question there is would he be interested enough to take them? Recently he's had to deal with just trying to stop the bleeding of Myers commits so he can see what they recruited. No doubt some quality talent has already changed their minds & left.

I don't know enough about the JMU recruiting classes past this year to comment, but besides Good who on this year's roster would contribute in the SEC? In the past, there was a Catcher, a couple Infielders and of course JJ that were really talented, but I'm not sure the rest are at that level.

Then he managed some pretty good wins against SEC programs.

Dean didn't put a bad product on the field. His kids year to year could mostly play with any program they faced. No doubt his starting roster wasn't as deep as the top programs year to year. I'd argue take better part of some of his starting lineups from JMU, & plug them in @ Auburn, with him as coach, they'd be viewed as just another stud SEC roster.

Some very, very good players get lost in the mix of the CAA.

Don't disagree that the supporting cast in the past had SEC quality players. I'm just not sure who would be at that level currently. They've lost the majority of that talent and the remaining players haven't shown the same consistency out of CAA play.

Good is NOT on schedule to graduate early.  She will be in the JMU purple for her senior year.

Oh well. The rest of the CAA should just resign themselves to sitting home for the regionals.

Drexel has an extremely weak schedule. Should result in a lot of wins.

I think a lot of teams could do a better job in pre-season as well as mid-week in the scheduling department...lots of weak opponents all around!

None of the CAA teams did anything noteworthy against P5 teams last year except JMU, so it isn't super surprising.

Drexel - 0 P5 opponents
Towson - 1 P5 opponent
Delaware - 4 P5 opponents
Charleston - 5 P5 opponents
UNCW - 3 P5 opponents
Elon - 5 P5 opponents

I expect to see Hofstra and JMU playing at least 5 apiece.

I know for sure HU plays Florida State and Oregon in a tournament at FSU, and I assume there will be more P5s if the schedule is similar to what it usually is

So what are the predictions for the CAA this season? JMU is obviously the favorite, but it will be interesting to see if they struggle without Dean running the show. Is Hofstra favored to finish second?

The pitcher is more important than the coach... for this year

You'll see the same thing happen at JMU as you did at Hofstra after Edwards left. Good is just so dominant that this season is in the bag for JMU. After this season they come back down to earth. The coach at this level is so important to recruiting and with Dean gone, just like Edwards, the allure to a CAA team isn't there.

Their schedule is not much better than the rest of the CAA (with the exception of Drexel and Towsen). JMU has yet to release their schedule, but it will be better than the pack. It is not a schedule to lift your RPI unless they beat FSU and Oregon! So..... meh!

Actually, JMU released theirs yesterday. It’s definitely better than other conference teams, but isn’t nearly what it has been the past few years. https://jmusports.com/schedule.aspx?path=softball

Best schedule for the CAA, ok I'll go with that now seeing JMU, but not at the level needed for a CAA school push RPI like years past. For a mid-major, the schedule is a B-.

Megan Good may very well pitch 275+ innings and have zero losses. If she can get 2 runs in support against their hardest opponents..whoever that may be, she will shut every team down. She may end up with the lowest ERA in the country.

And how did they arrange 2 'International' trips in one year? I thought schools were limited to 1 every 4 years? Wasn't too long ago posters were screaming JMU had to have Bake Sales to fund the team...10 days in Hawaii & week in Mexico. Not bad

I don't remember when Hawaii became a foreign country, but if JMU is going there it must be.

Our Whole Schedule is Bus Distance... not one trip at all further than Charleston... this should be one of the best Senior classes for Towson in a long time and they are stuck at home all Spring... i say bring on the Bake sale!

Ladder, this could be a good year for Towson. But their pitching will prevent them from being no better than fourth in the CAA. It's hard to believe that their coach is so narrow minded that their team does not stretch the schedule to get some better exposure for her players. If you think small you'll always be small.

Can anybody offer a report on how JMU looked this past Fall? Any indication who may get innings in a backup role for Good? How the Freshman pitchers looking?
