Mickey Dean is headed to Auburn. Interesting to see how this affects JMU this season...

Only that he's leaving now. Guess they told him if he doesn't take job now it won't be available later.

Wow. The CAA will be drifting even further down now.

Not at all, Mickey Dean had no connection to JMU other than the fact that he was the softball coach. It would've been hard to keep him there without paying him more than the school could afford. JMU was lucky to have had him for as long as they did. Any new coach they hire is immediately set up for success in year 1 with Megan Good returning and the other returners, so the timing actually makes sense there.

Shocked at what they are paying him maybe.    Not many coaches get to triple their salary so he would have been stupid not to go.  Can always retire to the low key
CAA after making bank in Auburn.  War Eagle to War Chest!

Actually he's got family conncections to H'burg. Looks like his decision was professional & financial. Just a matter of time.

Actually, Dean's family is from 'The Valley" . . . if you know about VA you know the terminology . . . so he did have a connection to the school and area.

He has a connection to the area, not the school itself. I specifically said JMU in my post, not Harrisonburg. His family may be from the area, but it's not like they're alumni.

So the question becomes............with Lauren LaPorte the "interim" coach at JMU does she put together a staff (knowing it is interim) for the 2018 season or is she interim with JMU searching immediately for a coach to come in NOW?   Would have to be hard to get staff with the interim label knowing it might likely be one and done.  Have heard different takes on Assistant Coach Herzig, whether she is staying or going.  She was the workhorse on the staff so my bet is she is headed to War Eagle.  MD would be lost without her IMO.

If he would be lost without her then why not take her now?

Coach LaPorte has been with Mickey since he was at Radford. I'd be rather surprised if she doesn't go with him to Auburn along with Herzig.

LaPorte is the interim coach at JMU and I know is actively looking for assistants right now so she is not going anywhere.   Herzig is still listed on the website (for now)

The way the announcement was made by JMU it sounds like they are planning to keep LaPorte long term. If not she would have left.

It will be interesting to see if Megan or anyone else tries to transfer out to Auburn. It is possible.

LaPorte was MD's right hand in Harrisonburg, but she will have to keep the pipeline to the Bandits open. Hopefully they won't shut the door on the Dukes.

I was curious about the transfer to. I think as soon as Good, or anyone started classes, they officially began their school year. And after Fall Ball, not sure how that would shake out for a Spring transfer.

Somebody should clarify this as I'm speculating.

Hofstra's pitching addition looks pretty good on paper, but I'll wait until I see her pitch a collegiate game to make any real judgements on her. Most CAA recruits aren't featured on FloSoftball, that definitely says something about her abilities.

Dandola has a lot of physical talent...She throws hard.

However, to be honest, I liked her better as a volleyball prospect.

Looking at Seaford box scores, she was never a shutdown presence in high school.

That is not in any way a knock on her; it's just a concern since statistically, we've had girls who came in with better resumes, but never quite found their stride.

I guess you're not a southerner and therefore don't understand the importance and meaning of the term 'place'.  For most of us it is extricably connected with family and supersedes any artificial connection like alumni status. A few of us are lucky enough to have attended Universities to which we are connected by both family and geography.

Isn't Good a senior? If so, doesn't SEC softball have a rule that no senior can transfer in?

Good not going anywhere. Distraught over Dean leaving but sounds as if she has been talked off the ledge.  With coaches LaPorte and Herzig still there she will be fine if she puts her big girl pants on.

Yes LaPorte named Interim Coach and Herzig staying as Assistant Coach.  Looking for pitching coach now (MD was pitching coach before)

Hmm, interesting. I find it surprising that's Herzig isn't going to Auburn with Dean.

Some work is being done to Bill Edwards Stadium, looks like it could be a new drainage system.

Update: doing some research, actually looks like the company doing the work is a turf company. They installed the turf on HU's baseball and soccer fields a few years ago.

Any work there should include drainage. Any rain and it's a quagmire.

Dean's total number @ JMU was likely a bit more than stated above but still probably short of six figures.  We are talking about a FCS school that pays it's football coach $300K . . . . and that's for a National Championship. That's likely what the lower paid football assistant coaches make at Auburn.
