New thread for a new season! Auburn’s schedule is finally out. This is certainly an improvement in comparison to the 2018 schedule: https://auburntigers.com/schedule.aspx?path=softball

No Aub-Bama series...They should at least play one game....That is to good of a matchup to leave off the schedule...But yes looks like a good tough schedule....

Dean will need to get the bats rolling if not it will be a long season.

Martin is going to need some help along the way

CMD needs a transfer pitcher or two badly.

From what I saw in the fall I believe pitching will be OK.  Swindle looks improved and Harris has some good stuff.  The transfer, Handley (LHP) has good speed but will need better control if she is to provide some helpful innings.  Hitting appears to remain the weak link.

Heard a rumor that Auburn is getting another transfer, but the rumor did not state who it is.  Any updates on Megan Good after she graduates this semester?  Kleist?

Rachel Cook? How recently did they add her if she is already on the roster?

Is she a walk-on who has not played for the past two years?  Her bio mentions her time in HS but lists her as a junior.

Well, terrible news for the team. KK Crocker is transferring. Why now of all times?

What is Dean doing with this team?

Exactly what he did at JMU, their fans would probably say.

And what would they have said? I still don't understand why a player would just basically quit, days before the season starts, unless it was personal problems, or an issue with her coach....

She wasn’t a starter in her first two years. Not sure why this is such terrible news.

lol. She was a good one off the bench. And had one of the better avgs for a part time player.

She didn't have any power, but losing a good backup has to hurt, when you have a team that struggled so much offensively last year...

Even though she wasn't that good it's still a loss because Auburn has so few decent position players. None of the freshman are highly touted, and since Mickey Dean gave so few players a reasonable shot last year, there's a huge lack of experience in the returning 2018 non-starters.

I believe the freshman catcher, Nillen, was highly-touted.

Not really, she hit .344 with 0 HRs in her first 3 HS years, her bio on Auburn's website doesn't read like a highly touted recruit either. Her defense is supposed to be very good, but overall I'm not holding my breath.

Nillen is good defensively but her bat is a major question. She wasn't highly recruited

Aspyn Godwin is the one to watch, she did miss her senior season due to an injury. She was a highly recruited kid who put up some big power numbers her three years in HS.

Godwin did not get to participate in fall ball whereas Nillen did get some reps.  One of those two likely move up to be back up for Veach since Tissier is now out for the season.

Was she really? By my research she was a top 210 (but probably not top 100) player after her Junior year, which is good but generally not first year starter material in the SEC. Factor in the injury and I'm not expecting a ton.

Honestly, this season could be pretty ugly imo. We've lost our MVP Carlson, 2 of our top 5 position players (who played key positions, CF and C), our probable LF starter (KK), we were lucky injury wise in 2018, and are playing a much tougher schedule.

Even with a cupcake schedule in 2018, only 1 position player was signficantly above average compared to the SEC average (Casey McCrackin, looking at OBP and SLG%). We had 5 players with an above average OBP, and we're losing 2 of them. We had 5 players with an above average SLG%, and we're losing 2 of them.
*Min 25 ABs

Only 8 returning position players had more than 10 ABs in 2018. As I said before, I'm not sold on the freshmen.

On the plus side, there should be fewer distractions (fingers crossed there isn't a transfer avalanche), and the players should be more comfortable with Dean.

What's the story on Auburn pitching? I know Martin, but who is going to pick up the slack now that Carlson graduated?

Auburn has 3 other pitchers behind Martin: righty Ashlee Swindle, lefty Chardonnay Harris, and lefty Lexie Handley (Akron transfer).

Unless Swindle or Harris can significantly improve over their performances last season losing Kara Bilodeau to FSU is going to hurt...

Have to pretty much agree with Supernatural here.  Unless someone on the coaching staff has brought forth an ability to coach hitting that they didn't show last year, results could be pretty grim.  We have the toughest schedule in the conference, and only two hitters that perform at an SEC level - Taylon Snow and McCrackin.  Rivera was good two years ago, but opted to go longball last year, and lost 80 points off her average.  Auburn has to hope that Perry, Greenwood, Dowell or Tate can make a splash.  Preferably all of them, if we want to compete.  Fortunately we have Martin, one of the best pitchers in the conference, to keep things respectable.

Regarding Crocker's leaving, I interpreted that (based mostly on the timing) as a reaction to finding out that she wasn't going to be the starter in left.  Just my guess, she was tired of putting in all the time and not playing every day.
