I agree with giving him time to recruit his players, but I would say his coaching decisions cost us at least 5 or 6 games this season, which has nothing to do with who is on the roster. He also wore down our top two pitchers against a cupcake non-conference schedule.

Dean has also not done a great job connecting with the fan base. At AU, if you connect with the fans, you earn lots of goodwill. I 100% believe Bruce Pearl would have been fired last year if he wasn’t so loved by Auburn fans. Meanwhile, Gus Malzahn beat both teams that played in the National Championship last year and some Auburn fans still wanted him gone because of his personality. I hope Dean succeeds, but he is not really inspiring confidence.

Yes, these days you can only be arrogant and aloof if you win.  A lot.

It is funny how Myers got the free ride on the backs of Deese's recruits.... and now Dean is getting pilloried for the players the Myerses brought in

I think we all can find fault with coaches for their on the field decisions. I can remember some bone head plays Meyers tried too. But what I am saying, is that let's see how he manages over time. NONE of these players were his, and every team in any sport should be given the chance to win with their philosophy on coaching and who he recruits. Dean did win, but just not enough. He got us to the playoffs with strong pitching, but our hitting did NOT progress over the last 2 years (even with Meyers). Losing 3 of your top hitters from last year really put this team in an offensive hole.

And I could care less the personality of a coach. Is it more fun if you have a coach who interacts well with fans? ofc. But if the coach still doesn't win, that won't last very long. Pearl's personality is great, but if he had not won the SEC, and finished like he did the last 3 years before, he was DEFINITELY on the hot seat.

So with Dean, who knows. He has won, but now we must give him a couple of years recruiting and trying to replace the good players who were the core of Meyer's strongest teams. It will show, but now is not the time to just give up on a coach.

Heard Lynch is intrigued by Washington, not saying she's gonna decommit or whatever but she seems to be all ears right now

Auburn fans (probably) should be scared by that. Her former...future??? teammate in Sarah Willis just might be able to sell her on everything that made her flip from Auburn to Washington herself.

Bruce Pearl is not only a fan favorite, his players love playing for him. Mickey Dean is a micromanaging drill Sargent and I am not sure how well that will play out long term. "Boys have to win to have fun, girls have to have fun to win" ~ unknown

You show how much you don’t know about Bruce Pearl.

What does that even mean?

What we do know makes him dangerous enough to an athletic department

All I will say is this, I know details you don’t know. Please go to your own board and bash other team’s coaches all you want but do us all a favor and let’s talk about Auburn softball on the Auburn softball board.

I don't know why you posted this here. I firmly believe with a new President and a new AD, Pearl was investigated up and down, inside and out, before they agreed to keep him on and give him an extension.

And I am DOUBLY sure Greene will be watching the basketball program under a microscope, and Pearl has all kind of compliance requirements to adhere to, that other coaches have not had to deal with.

Maybe you don't like him, I don't know...but to throw something so vague out there...only incites the ones who DO NOT like Pearl for whatever reason.

Let it go..and let's see how the BB program evolves over the next 2 years.

Now I'm done...back to softball worries..lol.

Definitely an excellent coach but I don’t think it’s out of line to say there was risk involved with his hire.

Shows how little people know before feeling like an expert and typing a post...

The NCAA investigator that Pearl lied to, Dave Didion, is an Assoc AD at Auburn.  HE signed off on the hire of Pearl back when it happened.

Did Pearl have trouble at Tennessee...yes he did.  He would have had a whole lot less trouble if he had told the truth.  Lie to the NCAA and it's over....they already know the answers before they ask the guilty party if they're guilty.

There's one thing EVERYONE needs to understand about the SEC schools (except Kentucky) and basketball.....basketball is a dirty sport across the board at all levels....everyone inside athletics and basketball knows that.  However, to think that ANY SEC school (except Kentucky) is going to let it's basketball program take down the mighty cash cow of football is clueless.  The reason Tony Barbee didn't last at Auburn (besides being a terrible coach) was that compliance cut his legs out from under him his first year with the biggest AAU name in the state.  He lost 2 top 10 recruits in the same weekend after compliance wouldn't let the AAU guys son walk-on.  The AAU guy was the one who got Auburn in trouble in basketball back in the early 2000's.  http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/PressArchive/2004/Infractions/Auburn+University+Placed+On+Probation+for+Violations+in+Mens+Basketball.html

So when they hired Pearl they checked under every rock and ultimately got the seal of approval from the guy who initially investigated him and found him guilty.  If there was anything wrong he would NOT have been hired.

Yes Bruce Pearl got a show cause because he lied to the NCAA, but his lie was about having a player over to his house for a BBQ, not paying players.

What happened at AU with Chuck Person hurt AU, it didn’t help. He was shopping players to agents and working to get them to leave AU to go pro. Pearl was put under the ultimate microscope and they found nothing.

If you question Pearl’s character, I suggest you watch this...

Wasn't really 'over' for him, though, was it?

So, CBP is a verified/documented liar.  I guess in the dirty world of college basketball, that qualifies him for sainthood.

*shrug*

Now the softball team has lost another player? Jenna Olszewski...

I wonder what the reason is for her leaving? She seemed to be in line for an OF position.

She is still listed on the roster. Is it for sure she is leaving?
