Maybe she just prefers being a HC at the pro level.  It seems like the college coaches be it Asst or HC who try pulling off jobs at both levels during the year burn out.  Walton only coached the USSSA Pride for a couple of seasons.  Rocha did one season as the HC for the Dallas team last year.  Once McDonald was hired in Feb for the Chicago job, it was probably decided that was it for now on the college level.  Tough to do any summertime travel ball recruiting.

Was she a short-game-offense coach? Isn't UF a purely plant-the-feet-in-the-box offense next year with McLean graduated?

For me, winning the wcws is WAY better than coaching an npf team for 3 months.

I would say so

Feels like a massaged separation

Was waiting on someone to point the "massaged separation" out.

Sharonda hasn't lasted very long in many places.

Both of them moved on to bigger positions.

Yes, McDonald was brought in more for the short/speed game.  It was just never UF's style before and they certainly never got proficient at it while she was there.  Have to think they go back to what worked for them previously since that is what most of the recent recruits do best.  And it seems like they picked a guy who recruits with the best of them and who Walton knows personally.

What the heck is a "short game - offense coach"? Does that mean they work more on bunting than the team normally would? I think it is a name without a function.

Was always an awkward fit with her skill set.

Think it would be a slapping coach

What worked for them best was averaging 406 walks and HBPs and averaging 84 HRs in 2014 and '15, against averaging 365 BB+HBP and 55 HRs in 2016 and '17

Lost a lot of right-handed big-stick talent, and the HBPs drying up forced pitchers to actually throw to the major hammers Lorenz and Kvistad less often. And, those are the only two HR hitters left.

I anticipate Romanello will be a third. Desperately need a third bomber to keep pitchers from avoiding the two lefties. Of course, that would be all the power in that lineup being from the left side yet again.

Will be interesting.

I wrote 'short-game-offense' coach

Not 'short game-offense' coach.

LOL!

Whatever you wrote, it doesn't make sense. When did they slap anyway?

Made perfect sense to -- you know -- people who actually know the Gators.

But I will type slow for you: b-u-n-t-i-n-g a-n-d s-l-a-p-p-i-n-g m-a-k-e u-p t-h-e s-h-o-r-t-g-a-m-e o-f-f-e-n-s-e

And... quote the crap correctly

Congratulations, you know the Gators. I am in awe. So I left out a line or something in the quote, big deal. It would be dumb to have a special coach for that stuff anyway. Home runs and power win the big games. That short stuff goes bye bye when the pitching gets better.

LOL... it is oftentimes the only remnant of offense to turn to against a dominant pitcher, as there are a multitude of degrees of contact that work for pure speed. Just need to be on top of the ball

I WILL give you that that Alexis Macks of the world do seem to be drying up. Fewer and fewer of them, it seems

Uh not!  That's precisely the time the short game becomes super important!

so if they are getting back to who they are, does it mean the new asst at UF is going to teach them how to lean into pitches again?

I thought the rule would have changed by now. I like when you earn your way on base leaning in and getting "hit" to me takes the fun out of the sport. It's like there is no excitement out of it.

Look at the box score for the Championship series. Slippers were not a factor

Good teams can pitch to and defend slappers.
Teach your kids to hit the ball.

Hilarious stuff

TruDat and Heavy, both of you get it and are good for the game............I hope ya'll stay involved and spread the message...............Those who attack your message only hold the game back...........

Anyone can close their eyes and picture arguably the best power hitting team in softball last season.............And, the year before.........What a coincidence, that same team won it all both years..........[smile]

This discussion can go back farther in Championships than just the last two years............

The last five were won by only two teams - neither a slapping team............The next five is just more of the same, though..............

The truth is, the more RBI producers in your line-up, the better your team will be............Coaches not looking for RBI producers are treading water..........
