Just in case you want to follow along:

http://asa_gold.bbstats.pointstreak.com/scoreboard.html?leagueid=811

Of course I've been following the Texas Impact Gold who haven't looked too hot so far going 0-2 to open Pool Play.  And strange thing being no Paige McDuffee pitching yet for them?  Wonder if she is still recovering or if they are just holding her off until Bracket Play.

Interesting seeing Newton Rock, who pretty much owned the tournament last year, lose to OK Force.

She just pitched 4 innings in their loss against GCH.

I think I'm watching one of the craziest Gold games ever on ASA video.  Illinois Force vs. Newton Rock.

In the 11th inning now.  But in the 10th, Illinois bunted the ITB runner over to 3rd, and then Illinois gets a walk.  Next runner tries a squeeze bunt and pitcher gets the runner at home, and then fires down to second to get the runner hanging off 2nd for the 3rd out of the inning.  Bottom of the 10th, Newton Rock gets the leadoff to sacrifice the ITB runner to 3rd, then two consecutive walks load the bases.  Finally the batter strikes out, and they call the runner out at third for leaving early (i believe that was the call).  Either way, what a strange way to have that all unfold.

Rock runner did not leave early. She came off the base and taunted. She either had to commit to home or return to third but she danced back and forth so the 3rd base blue called her out for "taunting" or delay of game, which ever you prefer.

It was a marathon game and both pitchers were amazing to watch. Illinois Force came out ahead in the 11th inning w/3 runs and Rock could not answer. Final was Force 4 Rock 1.

Ah, I thought I saw the crazy movements, but thought maybe it was a reaction to calling her out for leaving early as the box score says.

Totally didn't realize your daughter was playing for Illinois Force until just now.  Congrats to her!

OK Diamond Girls & TX Eclipse, 0-0, headed to bot 6 with 2 hits for each team.  Pretty even except...DG pitcher has 1K, Eclipse pitcher with 11.

Eclipse just scored

Wow, one of my favorite upcoming pitching recruits, Stanford-bound Carley Hoover, is pitching a gem of a game, allowing no hits through 7 innings and 6 Ks.  Jenni Brooks is pitching a solid game for the Peppers as well, allowing 2 hits through 7 innings and 8Ks.  Tied 1-1 going into the top of the 8th.

Wow, and the Peppers win while being no-hit.  An illegal pitch cost the Mustangs the win (the run didn't score on the IP, it just moved the ITB runner to third and she scored on the flyout).

Can someone comment to the fact that the So Cal Athletics playing in OKC is their 16U team, which is what I've read, but just wanted a second source to say yes.  If so, very interesting that they just continue staying in the winners bracket.

Yes that is Mike Smith's team. They will be playing 16u PGF, same as last year.

.

Never heard of "taunting" or delay of game called on a baserunner.
Sounds like she was called out for a LBR violation.

I think at this point, my favorite to win might be the Cal Lite.  Maybe So Cal Athletics, but hard to think of a 16U team winning it, but stranger things have happened.  Like the paths of the Witchita Mustangs and the Texas Impact.  Texas Impact couldn't buy a win during Pool Play, but on Friday with 24 teams left they are still standing, where as the Mustangs are gone despite looking rock-solid to open the tournament.

Athletics did add Nasland to its pitching staff for Nationals. She is one of the top 18u pitchers out there. She will return to TNL next week and try and win the pgf 18u nationals with them

Thanks!  All this shifting of rosters causes confusion for someone who has planned to follow certain teams.  Sheesh.

Looks like I might've jinxed the Lite and Athletics.

I was there-she was called out when the ball was in the circle and she was jumping back and forth. There was NO LBR.

FYI my DD was picking up with Illinois Force this past week and will be in Cali with her Southern Force team next week.

ASA Look Back Rule

• The ASA “Look Back Rule” applies.

When a batter gets a hit, play is live until the pitcher has possession of the ball in the eight foot radius around the pitchers mound.

Once possession is made, all runners may only stop once, but then must immediately return to the base or advance to the next base.

Failure to immediately return nonstop to the base or proceed to the next base will result in a runner being called out.

Once a runner stops at a base for any reason they will be declared out if they leave that base.

Exception: The runner will not be declared out if a play is made on her or another runner. (A fake throw is considered a play)

Wow, two seventh inning comebacks to advance Cal Lite and Tx Impact.  Both scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th, and holding the opponent to zero runs in the bottom of the 7th to win the game.

Down to 8 teams left.

Last I checked, Gold was merit based, not age based.
AZ Desert Thunder over SoCal A's 2-0 on a 2RBI double by Erin Satterfield.

Final 4:  Two Texas teams in the losers bracket, 1 CA team, and 1 AZ team standing on top.

They can, and have at the very least now done it two years in a row.  Athletics and Angels 16U did it last year, and just Athletics this year.  Isn't that right?

Jay,

Thanks, I was just wondering.

Impact Gold/SoCal/Desert Storm....final 3!

Does anyone know if this SoCal team was the same one from the Demarini Tournment in Chicago?

Yes. The Angels team from last year is now playing 18s.

No, they are not the same Athletics team. The team at Demarini was the 18u team that won PGF two years in a row and will play PGF HS next week. The team in OKC will play PGF 16u next week, minus a pitcher they picked up from TNL for ASA Nationals.

Great pitching performance by Wilson ... including her only two strikeouts coming to end the game and allowing only 4 hits in the 7 innings.  Marks took the lost going 7 innings and giving up 5 hits.

NOticed that Paige McDuffie only played in pool games - is she injured?  Only threw 4 innings, and didn't play in bracket look like.. Just curious - Marks seems to have carried the load in pitching.
