This really deserves a separate thread, but I'd like to answer you with something I discovered by accident yesterday.

I was looking into past years and how the Selection Committee used or didn't use RPI as the deciding criterion.  I found a post I had authored from 2009, entitled "Why isn't Arizona hosting a regional?"  I was curious and still trying to understand why their RPI didn't govern that decision.

By here's my point... within that thread, somebody posted a quote from Mike Candrea, which leads me to respond to your question with Because Candrea himself by his own words is "too old to figh the battle".

Here is a link to the thread from 2009:  http://robocoach.websitetoolbox.com/post/why-is-arizona-not-hosting-3471738?pid=35524892    and here is the quote that is relevant in post #22:  "

Candrea said he was "too old to fight the battle" about why the NCAA was concerned with saving money with its seedings.

So, Candrea is now nine years older than when those words came out of his mouth.   I cared more about whether Arizona got a fair shake than he did, apparently.

So there you have it, you have a coach that is too tired, been doing the same thing too long, is in a rut, and by his demeanor, is probably bored.   He should have retired the year those words came out of his mouth.

Without Janet Evans pulling in the star recruits, you guys have a talent deficit.  And you don't think star recruits and their advisors take a look at Candrea, then take a look at Walton, Gasso, White, KIP, Tarr, Murphy, Torina, now Ford, and don't see a difference in enthusiasm, in vision, in likeability?  Of course they do.  And without a trip to the WCWS since 2010, the history of success of the program is not enough to overcome the unattractive impression caused by your coach.

Am I the only one on here who sees this?

I see a decline in the Zona program also. But consider his past 9 years of experience since that statement. Hoping for something better from the Old Pueblo.

It's tough to put an exact finger on it that's for sure.

I was the one who wrote that bar hopping cannot be the major attaction for PSAs.

Look, I used to think Westwood, Santa Monica, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, etc. were great places.   I avoid them now.   As I've gotton older, I've grown to dislike crowds, traffic, noise, waiting in line, .  But PSA's are still young and like all that action.

Which underscores my point... Wildcats need a coach that players want to go out of their way to play for more than programs in college towns that are more "sexy" in the broad sense.  There's just a lot more outside of the team environment to attract students to Westwood, Berkeley, Knoxville, Eugene, Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, etc.   Tucson can join Norman, Waco, and a few other places that just aren't known as exciting places to live for four years from a high school student's point of view.   However, Gasso overcame that issue because PSAs have learned players love to play for her, and her teams have been hugely successful.   Candrea just ain't an attraction any more.  Were he a politician he'd have to settle for write in votes.   UCLA's coach has image issues as well, but Westwood and UCLA are attractive enough to 15 yr. olds to make them overlook that.

Nice to get that first win.  St. Francis is a good team and i was nervous before the game.

Also nice to see the players seem more interested and more involved in the dugout.

Hopefully we can get the second win today.

i also hope our batting improves.  Not good.  And where were all the fans yesterday, especially in the outfield?

Something awful. In her last 23 games Malia Martinez had batted 8 for 60.

McQuillin tied NCAA mark of 3 pitches 3 outs.
Actually it's 6 pitches 6 outs.
She did it against Stanford if what I heard is true.
