Just passing on info that she played 3B for the JNT. I wasn't implying she was a 3B but she wasn't a 1B last year either. Sometimes you do what you have to in order to get best 9 hitters in the lineup, no?

Nickels played SS almost unchallenged with Bates at 2nd. Harper and Klingler rotated at 3rd for a while, then Harper moved to 1B after Klingler apparently won the job at 3rd.

I actually think Harper should stay at 1st base for Az, as honestly, there is nobody better out there at that position.  Palomino is gawky, not sure she can translate the long throws to catching short hops in the dirt.

As much as I want to see my Cats on the top of the PAC, I think they'll be rivaled by ASU this year. Ford picked up a solid infielder in Gortarez and outfield in Howe. Both can swing the bat. But looking like Huskies or Bruins will take that title. Pitching will be key. Cats need to focus on bullpen, Love to see McQuillen take ownership. She's got a touch defense behind her, with bat suppprt. Mauga will be missed.

Yes, Arizona, unless a pitcher makes a massive shock impact, is a 4th to 6th team in the Pac.... looks like a Goodacre-era team again all of a sudden

I'm interested to see the adjustments the ASU pitching staff makes. Juarez could take over.

Some of you mothers were critical of Wilson
moving from center to first.
Palomino will do fine at 1B .
Kean can patrol center a la Bauer-Kramer

Without O'Toole, Mauga, Mercado, Perez and Palomino... they would be in Knoxville for a regional

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A lot of players who were shortstops in their high school years...
end up playing somewhere else when they get to college ball.
Did Harper play ANY games at SS for Arizona in 2017..??
Has she played ANY games at SS for the JNT..?

She may have been a SS before 2017...
but she has not been a SS in 2017.
So... it is not really correct to say that - Harper is a SS
It seems more accurate to say that - Harper was a SS.
Or... perhaps - Harper has been a SS in the past.

==========================================

Lauren Chamberlain was a pretty good defensive SS in her high school days.
Much like Harper - Chamberlain started her college career at Oklahoma by dividing time between 3B and 1B.
She eventually ended up as the every day starter at first base for Oklahoma.
Harper could end up the same way (as the every day starter at 1B for Arizona).

In LC's junior year of high school (2010), she made the USA junior national team and led the team to the Pan American gold medal by going 16 for 25 with 7 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs for a .640 BA and a 1.320 SLG%. She had 11 EBH in nine games and scored 12 runs while driving in 13... plus she had 6 stolen bases in 6 attempts. She was fast with a quick first step - and she was a good defensive player back in the day. Almost no one remembers her that way today.

Just because Jessie Harper - had been - a SS in her earlier days...
does not mean that she is one today - or that she will be one again.

But... who knows - maybe she will become a regular SS in college ball.
But I will be pretty surprised if that comes to pass.

Do not give a darn where JH plays as long as she keeps puting the ball over the fences and helps the Wildcats win games.

More likely available. Ready? Let's hope so, but most ACL surgeries are taking longer not shorter. She may be available, but not in playing shape because  schools are being conservative as to when injured players can return. Without her bat, run production has to be generated with small ball and the occasional timely long ball.  At least when they are not playing in Tucson.  Harper was great last year as not many knew what she could do and she was protected by Palomino.  But I suspect she gets marginalized this coming year--not doing great with Jr. National Team. The real threat will be the catcher and some freshman coming in.

More likely they will be in the Bible Belt for regionals than Tucson if Palomino is out till then... again, unless there is a shocking performance in the circle

Wait...Palomino will not be ready to play by feb? She might as well do what whitney canion did and get a 6th year for injury hardship. Not worth her coming in for one month.

They have her at 6-8 month timeline for rehab with surgery having been completed at the end of June.
