Candrea has a pitcher coming in 2018 and two in 2019.
All three do not look like another Parra, Finch or Hollowell.
Have a feeling he will go out and look for a pitcher or two during the summer.

Just make sure if you are the next walk in you bring your own pitching coach.

Oh, and don't believe it if you are also told you will be a regular batter...you probably have already had the last bat of your career.

And I forgot, don't be right handed!

Jayrot,

I personally like Floyd but they obviously just are not using her. I would've liked to see Bowling used MUCH more and Floyd used more last season. I think Bowling is effective as a starter and in long and short relief. Floyd in short relief. Give the opponents fewer looks, keep 'em off balance, and finish the game with a starter re-enter if needed.

Emma Bordenkecher went with Pocatello over Tucson cause Letts gave her something Candrea would not.

Apparently Ivy Davis' brother pitched against the wildcat baseball team at the cws last year, so athleticism runs in the fam.

So the first full weekend of softball at UofA is now past.  Someone needs to get the Arizona comment section here active again. I list below my comments for the first weekend.  Hopefully my comments will entice responses and possibly controversy.  I personally am excited about this year.  Many good things happening, but a few items leave me wondering.
There is no particular order of importance below.

1.  He is living with Toole on the mound.  Seems to have the stuff making the national team.  But he uses her in order and doesn't take her out even when the game appears to be well in hand.  Do I sense overuse and burnout coming?  Four pitchers, really going to live with one?

2.  Will Mauga break the home run record?  More specifically, will Pac 12 teams even pitch to her if she is on a hot streak?

3.  The players actually worked on bunting during one game.  Is bunting going to improve from horrendous and/or used rarely in 2016?  Optimistic here.

4.  What happened with the slapping?  No better place than Arizona, it used to be a specialty, but it appears none of the batters who have used it in prior years are even capable of slapping under control to any chosen designated spot. A game breaker lost in my opinion.  Inexcusable.

5. Can McQuillin get through tough spots.  Mows down less talented batters.  But give up a home run and the body language looks depressed.

6. Is there a better lead off batter in the Pac-12 then Perez?  I don't think so.  Love the way she hustles.

7. Base running is outstanding.  Doesn't seem to be able to get much better.

8.  The freshman have stepped in and seem to be capable and ready.  I didn't see any weakness except for Palomino's bat.  She is too good I hear and will have her streak weekend and be off to the races.  Hope it is soon.  I can't wait for her first home run.

9.  Why would any right handed pitcher ever even consider coming to Arizona?  Mike lives by his "years of the leftie".  Right handed go elsewhere.  How demoralizing.

10.  Speaking of demoralizing, the player called the third baseman of the future, who everyone raves about, is one of the few fielders to see any field time and less batting time than even the substitutes. How is Martinez going to survive and feel like she is contributing as she watches everyone else get innings and bats?

11.  Have to bring up Stacy.  Not a pitching coach but the pitching coach.  I haven't heard anyone say anything good about her coaching pitchers and anyone else since she arrived.  Is she getting better or is everyone just giving up?

12.  Does anybody see a weakness or way to pitch through/around the top five batters?  Pretty scary for the opposing pitchers.

13.  No reason this team should not make it to the WCWS assuming they stay healthy.  Anyone spot a weakness and want to say what the weakness is so we can watch and comment during the year?

14.  Second base, center field, and right field had the most changes for playing time during the weekend.  Who should earn the starting position in each location and why?

15.  Why is it that at the start of a season we have a big brown patch of dirt in center field?  Makes the stadium look tired.  How is that for a really important discussion topic?

16.  I just saw the ESPN rankings.  They have UCLA, Washington, and Oregon all ahead of us.  Utah is close behind.  Seems like no respect to me. Anyone agree? Is it possibly because , with a few games exceptions throughout the years, we generally play less than top competition until we get to Palm Springs (where our record is usually not that great)?

Let's keep Arizona 2017 on the first page where it belongs.

If Az doesn't make it to wcws this year, I may give up on them!  Mandie Perez is a super stud!  There are so many lefty pitchers now that they are not as daunting as they used to be, unfortunately, and Gasso has the lock on making them aa and ncaa champs/

2.  Will Mauga break the home run record?  More specifically, will Pac 12 teams even pitch to her if she is on a hot streak? Certainly gonna be fun to watch!!!!!!

3.  The players actually worked on bunting during one game.  Is bunting going to improve from horrendous and/or used rarely in 2016?  Optimistic here. We all remember the AZ teams of old . . . would love to see small ball come back.

4.  What happened with the slapping?  No better place than Arizona, it used to be a specialty, but it appears none of the batters who have used it in prior years are even capable of slapping under control to any chosen designated spot. A game breaker lost in my opinion.  Inexcusable. Eva Watson!

5. Can McQuillin get through tough spots.  Mows down less talented batters.  But give up a home run and the body language looks depressed. Doesnt seem to me that much progress from fresh to soph year has been made yet

6. Is there a better lead off batter in the Pac-12 then Perez?  I don't think so.  Love the way she hustles. I've thought she was a stud since day one. Her swing, man . . . Her and Mauga are two POWERFUL POWERFUL 5'2 ladies.

7. Base running is outstanding.  Doesn't seem to be able to get much better. yeppp

8.  The freshman have stepped in and seem to be capable and ready.  I didn't see any weakness except for Palomino's bat.  She is too good I hear and will have her streak weekend and be off to the races.  Hope it is soon.  I can't wait for her first home run. Palomino is stud x 10000000000. very lucky to have her.

9.  Why would any right handed pitcher ever even consider coming to Arizona?  Mike lives by his "years of the leftie".  Right handed go elsewhere.  How demoralizing. Just because our 1-2 pitchers are lefties? Com'on . . . . the program of the Nancy Evans, Jennie Finch, Alicia Hollowell, Taryne Mowatt. It just so happens we have two lefties. no big deal.

10.  Speaking of demoralizing, the player called the third baseman of the future, who everyone raves about, is one of the few fielders to see any field time and less batting time than even the substitutes. How is Martinez going to survive and feel like she is contributing as she watches everyone else get innings and bats? Maybe she was battling a cold or injured? I've heard nothing but good things about her and have no doubt she'll contribute. Maybe the adjustment to the college game is just taking a bit longer?

11.  Have to bring up Stacy.  Not a pitching coach but the pitching coach.  I haven't heard anyone say anything good about her coaching pitchers and anyone else since she arrived.  Is she getting better or is everyone just giving up?  I dont know what to think about Coach Iveson. Really truly . . . . . . .

12.  Does anybody see a weakness or way to pitch through/around the top five batters?  Pretty scary for the opposing pitchers.Agreed. Potent. Potent.

13.  No reason this team should not make it to the WCWS assuming they stay healthy.  Anyone spot a weakness and want to say what the weakness is so we can watch and comment during the year? I've felt more excited for this team then i have in awhile so. How ironic would it be that the SDSU coach forced O'Toole to sit a year for no real reason, and she ends up in that final year going out on top? Couldn't think of a more fitting final EFF you.

14.  Second base, center field, and right field had the most changes for playing time during the weekend.  Who should earn the starting position in each location and why? I think RF is the one really up for grabs. I dont see why we couldnt have a Perez-Palomino-Watson outfield.

We havent proven ourselves a top level team for a few years now. We are going to have to earn it back. Besides. The only ranking that matters is the last one. [smile]

What Courtney?  No response on the poor shape of the field? (No 15)

Maybe the rain today will help solve the problem.

The entire stadium is outdated and needs a face lift. What was once considered a higher end Pac stadium is definitely not there anymore.

The NDSU pitcher, Jacquelyn  Sertics has the Cats. Cats haven't gotten anything much going yet. T7, Cats ahead 2-1.

Final: 2-1 Cats. Sertic threw 6.0 with 6 hits and 2 ER.

Let's see if Candrea sticks with that rotation at MNC. I'd like to see him start McQ vs. Louisville and Tooley vs. BYU. Then Nancy vs. Purdue Friday night, and Michelle vs. LIU Brooklyn Sat. night, and Tooley vs. FSU with Bowling and McQ ready for relief to mix it up.

2.  Will Mauga break the home run record?  More specifically, will Pac 12 teams even pitch to her if she is on a hot streak?

Dunno. If they don't pitch to her, Kati's OBP will get higher and we have a runner on first.

3.  The players actually worked on bunting during one game.  Is bunting going to improve from horrendous and/or used rarely in 2016?  Optimistic here.

They'll need the short game in conference play.

4.  What happened with the slapping?  No better place than Arizona, it used to be a specialty, but it appears none of the batters who have used it in prior years are even capable of slapping under control to any chosen designated spot. A game breaker lost in my opinion.  Inexcusable.

Eva can slap well. Not too worried about lack of slapping with Mandy, Deja, Kati, Alyssa, Mo, Jessica, and Statman's big bats.

5. Can McQuillin get through tough spots.  Mows down less talented batters.  But give up a home run and the body language looks depressed.

She needs experience getting out of jams, she is probably the ace next year...

6. Is there a better lead off batter in the Pac-12 then Perez?  I don't think so.  Love the way she hustles.

She's always been good but this year it looks like she has fire in her belly.

7. Base running is outstanding.  Doesn't seem to be able to get much better.

[wink]

8.  The freshman have stepped in and seem to be capable and ready.  I didn't see any weakness except for Palomino's bat.  She is too good I hear and will have her streak weekend and be off to the races.  Hope it is soon.  I can't wait for her first home run.

Off to the races.

9.  Why would any right handed pitcher ever even consider coming to Arizona?  Mike lives by his "years of the leftie".  Right handed go elsewhere.  How demoralizing.

Not necessarily, Candrea said last year southpaws used to be a novelty but are now more common.

10.  Speaking of demoralizing, the player called the third baseman of the future, who everyone raves about, is one of the few fielders to see any field time and less batting time than even the substitutes. How is Martinez going to survive and feel like she is contributing as she watches everyone else get innings and bats?

Sometimes even the best have to wait their turn behind the Maugas.

11.  Have to bring up Stacy.  Not a pitching coach but the pitching coach.  I haven't heard anyone say anything good about her coaching pitchers and anyone else since she arrived.  Is she getting better or is everyone just giving up?

Something happened. A lot fewer free bases so far this year.

12.  Does anybody see a weakness or way to pitch through/around the top five batters?  Pretty scary for the opposing pitchers.

Might be 6 batters now the way TS has been hitting.

13.  No reason this team should not make it to the WCWS assuming they stay healthy.  Anyone spot a weakness and want to say what the weakness is so we can watch and comment during the year?

Only weaknesses I've seen are not yet remarkable because they haven't yet gotten the Cats into too much trouble.

14.  Second base, center field, and right field had the most changes for playing time during the weekend.  Who should earn the starting position in each location and why?

Too early to call, need innings to make that determination. I like Perez, Palomino, and Watson in the OF. Watson can slap and is greased lightning. Speed kills.

15.  Why is it that at the start of a season we have a big brown patch of dirt in center field?  Makes the stadium look tired.  How is that for a really important discussion topic?

Palomino stands in the same place because she has a pretty darn good range.

Polls are cautious because we haven't been doing so well in recent years.

Let's keep Arizona 2017 on the first page where it belongs.

Go Cats!

I am excited about the cats this year.  I go to the m/n classic whenever they are playing.

I appreciate you all getting the chatter going.

I am a short skinny guy wearing a light Pima Air Museum cap (I am an ex USMC fighter pilot) but very shy so say hi.

I would love to meet jayrot if someone would point him out for me.
