Mount Rainier is our tallest at 14417.
We have 24 peaks taller than your tallest.

Oh, I didn't claim to be a mountainous state, I just told him we had one or two.  If our climate and terrain was more appealing, we'd have more idiots moving here than we do now.  I wish we would close our state borders to the influx of California refugees escaping their suffocating governments and regulations.  Go away biatches.  They've already phucked up our Capital city of Austin with their quasi silicon valley tech centers

So Cali's Whitney is taller than Rainer, never would have known

Not to mention that Rainier is way overdue for an eruption that may be one of the biggest on the mountain.  If that happens hot molten lava will mix with ice, mud, rocks to create a lahar flow that is wicked fast, maybe 100 mph and may bury a major population under 100 foot of mud killing them dead.   So may not be all it is cracked up to be.

As Bill Burr says, we need a thinning of the herd anyway.

This seems positive.

"While Team Trump is divided over Iran policy — some say negotiate, others advocate pressure aimed at regime change — defiant Iranians taking to the streets of the capital are resolving that dispute decisively in favor of the latter.

Tehran’s grand bazaar was shut down Monday as merchants joined street protests and thousands defied thuggish regime riot police trying to quell the rebellion. Other big cities joined Tehran as well.

Protesters carried signs like “Leave Syria alone, think of us.” Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and the Houthis — all proxy arms of the Islamic Republic’s strategy of spreading its version of the “Islamic revolution” across the region — weren’t spared protesters’ ire either.

In a modification of the regime’s “death to Israel” staple, some merchants raised “death to Palestine” signs on Monday. And worse, from the regime’s point of view: “Death to the dictator.”

I get down on my knees and pray that Trump does not botch this like Obama did.  Those people deserve their chance at joining the civil world and leaving those nasty Aytollah's behind.

Just a little venting.  This past week and today, I have had a lot of things to do to get ready for my upcoming hip surgery.  In doing this, I have met with a bunch of people in that time span and have gotten to every one of my meetings 15 minutes early.  I go by the saying, "if you are 5 minutes early, you are 10 minutes late."  Anyway, I am amazed that not one person was on timeNOT ONE!  A couple of these were favors for the people I was meeting.  In one where I was taking them some of my tools, I had to wait almost 30 minutes.   NEVER LOAN OUT YOUR TOOLS!  Why wouldn't a person call or text if they are running that late? Today, I had to do my pre surgery check up at the hospital.  I didn't even know that was a thing.  So, I was given a time and I showed up my typical 15 minutes early.  The lady at the check in tells me I am early and that my appointment was not until 1:00.  I told her I know.  She basically said that it doesn't matter showing up early that I won't get in early.  That hacked me off some.  I didn't think it would.  Anyway, I'm not used to this stuff.  IMO, it is inconsiderate to be late and I understand that sometimes it can't be helped.  To go an entire week with that happening tells me a lot about our times.  Oh, as I left the hospital, they told me not to show up early for my surgery.  Can you believe that?

I had my hip replaced Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. and walked with a walker at 2.  I was released out of the hospital yesterday after walking a lot more and the Doctor doing a through evaluation.  Today, I am walking with a walker on the hour.  Some things I wanted to comment on:

  • Wow, I was amazed that I could get up and walk so fast.
  • I could only walk that quickly after surgery due to the drugs that I was given.  I didn't feel any pain.  No wonder those drugs are so addictive.  I asked the Doctor to get me off of them right away.
  • The Doctor told me that by the time I got home, I would be in great pain due to coming off of the opiate medication.  He was right.
  • If you need rest, the hospital is not the place to be.  I got so many shots and do understand why.  However, it seemed that I could never sleep more than 30 minutes without getting stuck again.
  • The therapy people at the hospital were really good as were the nurses.
  • I have a cut that is right at 5 inches long and runs vertically along my right thigh.  They glued it together instead of stitches.  I was surprised by that.
  • My Doctor wants a precise journal turned in when I return for my checkup.  He outlined everything in it from when I take my blood thinner to, Tylenol, to ...  I am to walk up and down the hall these first two days at home.  Then, I am to get outside and walk on the sidewalk about a half block and back. I even have to note showers.  I like having a Doctor who has outlined all of this.
  • Last night at 4:30 I busted out in a major sweat.  I could not stop sweating.  I don't know what caused that but it was not fun.  My wife helped me get to my lounge chair and I fell back to sleep.
  • My brother had major constipation after his shoulder replacement surgery and so I was afraid of that.  The pain medication causes that.  I don't have to worry.
I wanted to mention that on the day of my surgery, I was down 56 lbs.  I have lost more weight now.  I can't weigh myself since I can not bend down at all.  The Doctor said that I did so well that in 3 months, I can have my right knee done.  I think I will need to do it around Christmas but intend to go in and talk to my Principal as soon as I can drive to pick a time that will work for both of us.

Thanks for the update Coach, you are strong willed and a non-addictive type, what a blessing.  Stay strong and stay active, it's easy to get lazy after sugeries. I had 3 surgeries over the last 4 years and bounced back quick after all of them, neck fusion C5-6, bicep tear in forearm and a follow-up shoulder surgery

I went outside to sit for a while today.  I was not supposed to do so but then again, I can't stand being inside so, I won't stay inside.  This last couple of days have been something.  I bet I have had at least 5 people volunteer to mow my grass.  My neighbor said he would do it when he mows his.  One of the offers came from former player of mine in baseball and basketball.  He played for me in 1988.  He said that he and his boys would come over to mow.  I am so blessed.  While sitting outside, a local mowing firm was mowing one of the new house properties that have just been built and is up for sale.  The guy walks over and asked me if I wanted him to mow the grass.  I told him thanks but it is taken care of.  He said to let him know if it doesn't get taken care of since I taught his children, he could pay me back some and take care of the yard.  While in that conversation, a truck pulls up and a colleague gets out carrying my lunch.  Last year, the local deli had a special on their meatball sandwich.  It is awesome.  He remembered that and ordered one for me.

Some people on this site put down Small Town USA calling the people rubes, hicks, ...  The reality is that they represent great American values and take care of their own.

Great read - guy's car breaks down the day before his first day of a new job.  He walks 20 miles to get to work, cops find him on the side of the road, feed him breakfast and buy him lunch to go.  Another cop takes him to the house of the lady he was moving and the owner of the company gives him a car after hearing the story.  GoFundMe has already hit $11,000.

That is a great read!  This type of stuff does not have to be legislated.  Americans will step up to help those in their communities.  Lost_1, I read that story earlier in the week.  I could not believe it.  However, that is where we are headed in a society where everyone gets a trophy, masculinity is considered bad, ...

Went to Doctor early this morning.  He said that if there were such a thing as "Super Patient" I would be it.  Weight now down 57 lbs.  (Just under 213 lbs.)  Doctor asked me to walk without walker across the room and I did.  He told me he has never had a patient come this far this fast.  However, he told my wife that I need to get a cane for safety.  It isn't that I can't walk without a cane, it is the time frame between surgery and total wound healing.  He said he feels better if I had that little bit of extra support.  It has been 12 days since the surgery.

On another note, we had to get to the Doctor and then my wife had to get to work.  We set the appointment early.  When we came out of the garage, our driveway was blocked by a roofing company's truck.  Our neighbor has to have a new roof after wind damage.  My wife went to the guy beside the truck and asked him to move the truck.  He said he didn't speak English.  She tried to get another worker to move the truck.  He didn't speak English.  Of the 5 guys there, not one spoke English.  Now, I hot and headed that way.  I realize that the one guy is the guy that from our local deli who had the salad thrown at him about a year ago by another guy who yelled at them that they were all illegals and taking jobs from him.  I reported that here back then.  They won't move the truck.  How hard is that?  So, our neighbor comes out because I'm hot.  He gets mad at them and calls the company.  The company calls the one head guy and they move the truck.  Can you believe this?  Our neighbor told the guy on the phone that he is hot that these workers have made his neighbors angry.  What are the chances that 5 workers in Small Town USA who don't speak a word of English are legal?

Update on story above.  I went out to let my Grand Puppy go to potty.  The roof of my neighbor has not been touched.  He came out and told me he sent them home.  Then, he asked me if I noticed the truck they were in and I did.  It was from a company one town over.  He said that he got so mad that he called that company again and found out that, while he thought these roofers were from his company, they weren't.  They sub contract out from that company when that company is over booked.  The truck and equipment actually had a rental advertisement on them.  He cancelled the job totally.  He said that tomorrow another company will be there.  When you get bids from some of these places, you need to beware!

It has become very common.

Was back home for a family reunion.  Been a long time since I have had time to hang around in my small town in Illinois.

Talked to several people.  They shared a common story.  That Mexicans had become the ultimate farm work force in that area.  This is an area that was 100% German and Irish dirt farmers.  Going back several 100 years these families all farmed the dirt.  So it was shocking to see that most of these types of jobs are now going to Mexicans.

In the end that is probably the natural course.  This is how the Germans and Irish came to these areas.  The English owned a lot of the land but it was too hard of work to get any money out of it so they hired poor immigrant Germans and Irish to do it, eventually splitting up the large land tracts as it was easier to sell the land than try to manage the farming.   I still remember (just barely) going to stores where all the signage was in German and the people in the store spoke German.

I do not have an overall problem with it.  My history with Mexicans are that they are reasonable smart, and super hard working, and that they will likely take the same exact path as the Germans and Irish did.  Do what they can to get their kids good education, get their kids next level opportunities.  This will obviously entail all the trappings of American society, house debt, cars, education, education debt, learning english, the same as it did for the Germans and Irish.

They must come here legally.  I would like to see us actually increase legal immigration as long as our unemployment employment rates are very low (less than 5%), and we should always prefer the more skilled/smarter/means/hard working workers over just having a flow of bodies.  This will greatly reduce the chance of these people becoming dependents.

Fair response!  I have a problem since there are American citizens who can and want to do that work.  Tomorrow, it will be done by boys who grew up in this area.  I wonder how poorly these workers are paid.  I know that there is growing discontent that they are undercutting all of the roofing and brick jobs in the area.  That leads to some serious loss of work.  We have some who would be violent in their response, and to be honest, I think that there is a small chance that places could burn after using this labor.  As I have often posted here, my Mother in Law was an immigrant.  She came fro Lithuania.  I am all for legal immigration and have often said that our country needs to change the quota system to accommodate more people from Mexico, Central and South America.  I'm not opposed to anyone wanting to do better for their families.  I am opposed to illegal immigration on many grounds but including the exploitation of that work force.

It is my opinion that the one guy this morning was just refusing to move that truck.  I was about to move it for him.

This morning, my wife came in crying and said that she could not stop.  This morning she got up early, real early, and went to the farm.  This afternoon, her and her four brothers sold the farm.  The farm has been in my wife's family since the late 1800s.  The main barn has the year 1904 burned into the main beam.  It was put up with pegs holding all of the joints.  It is still an exceptional barn.  The farm has been for sale ever since my Father in Law passed away so ten years.  So, for ten years, my wife has spent 6 hours a week just mowing it.  I also help mow parts of it but, to be honest, she does most of it.  I'll reserve any comments on why my wife alone had to mow when she has siblings.  Add in another few hours she spent there each week and, yet, she works full time.  So, for ten years, she has made sure that the farm looked as clean and neat as her father kept it.  IOWs, immaculate.  I am laid up with my hip after hip replacement and so, she spent these last two weeks cleaning three barns and all of the land by herself.  One clause said that the barns had to be not only clean but the floors spotless.  Spotless in a barn?  LOL  She did it.  As I mentioned, the company that purchased the land is from Great Britain.  They are opening their business, as one of the negotiators mentioned to me, because of Trump's tax break.  It made more sense for them to move their company over here.  They have fantastic plans but we still don't know exactly what they do.  They will create 30-40 jobs here.  That's big in Small Town USA.  We went over tonight and she just wanted to be on the land one last time.  As she said, it is where her memories are.  The fields are planted and, with this agreement, we get the proceeds from this last crop.  The roughly 12 acres she mowed all of the time will be totally changed within a year.

We have 5 acres left that is located by the interstate.  The family is asking a boat load of money for that land.  IMO, they will get it.  It is sad but another American Family Farm went by the wayside today.  Her dad and I used to put up 2,000 bale of hay every summer off of that land.  We used to run 15 horses and a horse business there.  Her dad farmed countless acres and ran a Dairy.  I'm going to miss the place as well.  I too have great memories there.

BTW, if you are wondering how she kept that land mowed, she used one of these with 60 inch cut:

What brand is that? Got a green and yellow z655 with a 54” high capacity deck. I replaced the engine this winter. Figure I will need a different ride in a couple of years. Looked at Kabota but I’m not convinced yet. Any suggestions?

The mower is a Grasshopper 725K.  They no longer make it.  Actually, the above is the style they make now called a "mid mount."  Here is a picture of the 725K below.  Our mower is in a lot better condition than this one.
