One of those 2 Bay schools needs to be relevant.  They could use ASU being relevant again too.

ASU will have a surprise year this year I think. Ford will develop her pitchers and they have some very solid players transferring in. I stlll expect them to be middle pack, but they'll compete well against big teams outside of their conference.

Any idea on who she'll bring on as a pitching coach? Hope it's someone strong!

Seeing merchant at Stanford wouldn't be a bad move.

I wonder how much they offered her. Palo Alto is super expensive.

Any word on Merchant or Piper Ritter now that Trachsel was hired at Mn? will they go out to Stanford? Have to imagine it may have been offered to Merchant...or maybe not. Either might make you think she may leave.

Stanford is not an easy move for either one of them.  Both have roots in the Minneapolis area.  A tougher move for coach Ritter than for Merchant, though.  Too bad if they have to break up the staff.  Allister/Merchant/Ritter is a great combination.  Too bad they did not give the Head Coach job at Minnesota to Merchant.

They offered it to Merchant.  She decided to go with Allister to Stanford.  Ritter will be staying at MN with Trachsel.

If that's the truth what bad choice to turn down a head coaching job and especially when she helped recruit many of the players.. Unless she felt she was not ready or she likes her role as an assistant.  What do we know?  Just know that rent is high in Palo Alto!

No way you can take that job without rent being covered with some on-campus housing....right?

$1,550 per square foot in Palo Alto.

It's astronomical! Still how do you turn down a program that you helped build.  Unless she was not offered.  I know that they do it for professors,  so I would guess they have some type of assistance.

Because, the Big Ten has shown no inclination to demand softball improvement league-wide.

It cost Minnesota dearly this year.

Stanford the better opportunity, IMO.

At least it is built in that if you run the table against that conference, you will be hosting

Because of the high local housing costs, Stanford has not only been building residences, it has been buying local residential properties, from single family houses to apartment buildings, to house its employees and faculty.  It makes these non-campus properties available to these folks at lower than market costs, to compete for talent that would otherwise not relocate to such a high cost area.

While these are not available to every university employee, it's possible that the athletics dept. can tap some of them for coaching positions.

Median home price in Palo Alto is 2.7 million while the avg rent is $6000/month.

Reasonably good source advised yesterday that Merchant does not want to be a head coach at this point in her life.  Evidently does not want the responsibilities which go along with a HC job.

It's sad that Ninemire doesn't retire and allow someone that truly loves the game come in for the players. Watched them this year and they looked like the life had been sucked out of them. Didn't see much "coaching" going on either

Not everyone wants to be a HC. There are plenty of assistants several years into their career who haven't pursued head coaching jobs. Maybe she's taking a note from her mentors/coaches and trying to help build a powerhouse.

Like Michigan. Good for her.

I'd say the two are on even playing field.  DN just has the championship.

Not getting to see PGF live, but looks like Allister might have a promising pitcher in Dwyer.

Shut us down 1-0. Very athletic, changed speeds and had good control up and down. Impressive.

I watched Dwyer pitch very impressively in the TCS National Championship game a couple weeks ago.
