Great hire. Shows that Stanford has turned the corner and is respecting softball again.

Huge huge huge. No way they can replace her.

Where does this leave Sydney Smith?

My guess is that Jessica Merchant gets promoted. She has been Allisters's trusted lieutenant all seven years at Minnesota.

As for Smith, she probably stays if Piper Ritter stays

Nice!  I was wondering if she would now go for the job and I wonder how many Gophers will follow her.[smile]

Great hire! Very excited for the Stanford players and program.

From the looks of things, the Hansen resignation was planned and the Allister hire was already in the works or a done deal.

planned by who? Hansen or Stanford? Why wait until Early July? if she were "forced out", surely she would have negotiated a buyout of some sort.

By Stanford.  Everyone was aware that the AD knew they had made a mistake.  My guess is someone caught wind that Allister would be willing to come back and be the HC.  The school negotiated and got a deal done, then gave Hansen time to go find another job.  Once she found something she then resigned, the school gave it a week and then announced the hiring of Allister.

Especially considering the Minnie AD pursued a contract extension with a large raise throughout the season and Allister would not do it.

Mike White does not approve of Allister cause
he knows she will not kiss his butt like Hanson did.

If White does not understand and acknowledge her part in the recruiting of his past players from the beginning of his tenure and going through the graduating class of 2016 and including Danica Mercado from the class of 2017 his ego is bigger than even I imagine it to be.

What the f*** does that have to do with what I posted?

And, yes, you hire assistants to help in recruiting. But your name is on the letterhead.

Don't overplay that hand

Good luck to this new coach.

She will make a difference. She sticks to her lineup so I hope she does not get into the same bind as Coach Ritter.

Doesn't have much to do with it at all.  Has more to do with the post above yours(which I did not manage to get included in the quote) about whether or not Mike White would approve of the Allister hire.  I am pretty sure that neither Stanford or Allister care whether or not Mike White approves.  That chapter is now over at Stanford.  I would guess that he respects her enough that he would never have tried with her what he did with Hanson.  If not, well, what would that say about him?

Excellent hire by Stanford; about time! Big loss for Minnesota. We will see who gets that job.

Unless Minnesota promotes from within, you'd have to think their hire would have fairly significant HC experience. This could potentially set off a ripple effect in the DI coaching community right before the kids go back.

I don't know. I think they would have to pay big, big money to yank someone out right now.

I am guessing they promote from within

You think they will pay a hire from within similar monies they reportedly were going to pay Allister? If for no other reason to show some loyalty/stability?

This is a good sign for D1 Softball...I have no idea what the figures are but sure seems like some of these Programs are starting to open their wallets a bit more...pay some coaches some real money..What you think 3left??

They will pay less for the successor, IMO, just because of this brutal timing for them

But with TV ratings blowing up and Olympics back in play, softball will get better-paid on the whole

Pac desperately needs Stanford to be relevant.... Could see more than one-third the NCAA Tournament field from SEC and Pac in the next year or two.... crazy
