I noticed Cornell yesterday as well. Location and movement were really good. I think that starting line-up is pretty close. Based on her swings yesterday, I don’t think Jenkins hits .137 again. Hemphill as dp would be nice.

I had previously stated that Jenkins would get the start at SS because she has the stronger arm.  Wallace will be at second unless Morgan can't get her bat going.  Then I can see Jenkins going to 3rd, Wallace at SS and Sides at 2nd.  If anything, I would think that Tow would be the DP and Hemphill would be at first.  More experienced and more versatile.

Could be.  Again, that is purely based on scrimmage time, and a lot of options will be tried.

A bit surprised to see Kayla Davis missing from your projection Stephen. Sides looked very good in right the one Fall Ball game that I saw. Very aggressive.

It's not a projection.  Just an observation of who has been getting the most time at each spot in the last couple of scrimmages.  If Davis hits anything like she did in the Fall games, she will play somewhere.

Question for Bama fans: Will we put Fouts in the lineup as DP to hit in some of the games when she is not pitching?

I expect Fouts to get her shots at the plate, but she might be eased into it.  My observation is that they have had her really focusing on pitching going into the season.

Pending trustee approval, improvements could be coming to Alabama’s softball complex.

The first step in a $3 million renovation to Rhoads Stadium will come Friday morning at the Board of Trustees meeting in Birmingham. The athletics department will seek approval of the scope and budget as Step 1 in the process.

If approved, the project funded by the Crimson Tide Foundation would renovate the stadium’s press box, clubhouse while adding concessions, restrooms and two suites.

According to the documents filed in support of the project obtained by AL.com, the stadium improvements are needed to “keep pace with peer institutions and to host the 2020 NCAA regional tournament.”

The clubhouse, last updated in 2010, would add two additional lockers to accommodate the roster while adding to the restrooms and showers.

A new 341-square foot umpire locker room is also planned. Currently, the officials have to be driven in and out of the stadium before and after the game. The goal of the new space I is “decreasing the amount of fan interaction,” according to the documents.

The proposed new concessions and restrooms would be located on the first-base line and occupy 1,599 square feet. The two suites would be 216 square feet apiece. Currently, one main concession stand behind home plate serves the stadium seating 3,940.

I wonder if the Rainey Gaffin debacle of a few years ago chills coaches from putting a bat in the hand of a circle stud

OH MY!  Claire Jenkins just hit her 2nd Home Run of the day. Yes, repeat 2 HR's for Jenkins on opening day. That matches her career total I think. Quite a good early sign.

[I was SO jazzed for Claire!  Hope she can keep the bat going, because she is phenomenal in the field and we need her to stay in the lineup!]

And now she gets the first triple of her career!  Go CJ! [thumb]

I wouldn't have believed Murray State would score 10 against Alabama if you gave them 10 games to do so.  Dang.

I had only ever seen Morgan play 2B pre-Alabama, but watching Morgan at 3B reminds me so much of Ramsey at 3B, and that makes me happy!

I was surprised Kayla Davis got only 1 at bat all weekend. Did not hear anything about Kyla getting hurt. Hopefully she's ok

Overall, seems like a real good opening weekend. Both Fouts and Cornell were impressive. I like the lineup with Tow at 1B, Sides RF, and Hemphill catching some but DP otherwise.

Our hitting and offense were strong overall, especially tow (who hit .700), Hemphill, and wait for it … Jenkins!!! I realize we have to see how we pitch and hit against stronger competition, but mostly good indicators this weekend.

Couple of areas I am looking at for improvement went pretty well.

1.  The defense looked really good.  No errors committed so far.

2.  Cut way down on the walks.  The staff had a total of 7 in 30 innings.  Fouts absolutely stood out with no walks in 13 innings, and Fouts/Cornell/Goodman combined for 2 walks in 22.1 innings.  Great to see lower pitch counts and more challenging of the zone.

Murphy took a very different tact than any other opening weekend I can recall, basically sticking with the same defensive lineup all weekend, and only making minor lineup adjustments.  I'm guessing he wants everyone to get as comfortable as possible at their position.

Fouts did exactly what you hope your ace will do.  She was challenged to go complete game against the same team twice on their home field, and completely dominated.  I thought Cornell took another step towards winning the #2 job.

All very good points. I too noticed that Murph stuck with the same lineup pretty much all weekend. That is new. I think Cornell is almost a slam dunk to be #2.  Very encouraged by both the hitting and defense of Sides, Morgan, Jenkins. Hope to see more offense from Wallace and confident we will.

I was there and it really happened. If Murray had any depth at pitcher, they would have won that game. They went to the bottom of the 6th with a 10-6 lead.

Depth? Or talent? I mean they went through 4 pitchers. How much more depth do they need?

Alabama used 3 or 4 also, so I guess they have no talent either😂😂

3. And I didn’t argue that. I was asking for clarification. If you want depth, how many more pitchers do you want MSU to throw?
