Love to hear others opinions:

seriously.....i am very good at taking a "state of our union" poll.....and tend to talk to the head coach often. let me know if you guys have any ideas about how we can improve the experience at Alabama Softball games!!!!  either here, or email... emily.pitek@gmail.com

also, i will scream from the mountain tops how incredible this program has been, and will continue to be because of the values those within and around the program hold.

This blog post is nothing short of a great example of those, and how sport can greatly impact the lives of others.

Well done, Alabama Softball, well done.

Wish I had opinions.  Every time I've been, I've just been too entranced in the game to pay attention to facility issues.

I think one of the best ideas I have seen on Twitter is to open a gate at the bottom of the brickyard so that people don't have to lug their chairs all the way around.  I think making this easier for families and providing a bathroom and concession stand will bring even more people out there.  (if someone could make food more affordable, or offer family packs I think that would be an added bonus)

I also like where the platform in left field is going, just think it needs to continue to be improved.

One other thing, and it may be already out there and I am not aware,  allow season ticket holders to give their tickets that they know they are not going to use to local organizations that work with groups that may not be able to afford a softball game.  On the scale of athletic events it is not  expensive, but for many of the families that I work with, it is still out of their budget.

With all that being said, going to softball games is still an awesome experience and as of right now gymnastics is the only sport that is ahead, but they had many years to get there.  I think that this is an example of Coach Murphy's genius, he could easily be satisfied with where he is but he is constantly looking for ways to make the experience better and understands the importance of it.

I haven't had a chance to catch any of the practices yet.  Anybody got any reports?  How are the freshmen looking?  Anybody standing out?  I know Murphy is supposedly taking a more active role working with the hitters this year.  Hope that this it works out.

My biggest suggestion would be to have more choices for food at the concession stands.  [idea] Due to the start time of some of the games, we quite often have to eat a meal at the park in order to avoid missing any of the game.  And I get tired of only having hotdogs and nachos.   [frown][mad]

The baseball stadium has much more variety, so clearly the vendors have the capability. Not sure if its limited by the size of the concession stand or what kind of cooking equipment is or isn't at softball? Once the weather gets nicer, they open some of those stands on the concourse with burgers and stuff but early on it is rough.

baseball were the benefactors of a $44mm stadium. softball got a $2mm upgrade. nothing with the concessions. with other programs around the country putting muuuuuuch more $ into their programs than what we (athletic dept) did in 2011, pretty sure a major overhaul will be necessary.

Never want to see this happen to a player. The career just ends with out its natural completion. Happened to mine. Sucks as a parent as well

With the ageing fan base the bathroom situation needs to be addressed.

I don't care about the food. I'm there to see the game. We can quit running the count out to 3/2.

I know you can't tell much from fall ball, but anyone have a report on how the new pitchers and freshmen did last night?

My very early impression is that Morgan and Tow have legit shots at starting jobs.  Morgan hits the ball all over the ballpark, and she really stands out for the energy she brings.  I'm told that she is as coachable as they come.  She just looks like a "ballplayer".  Tow is a legit power threat and a very good athlete.  She started in RF and at 1B.

Preston and Gettins each pitched a complete game and did well.  I think Gettins is clearly the #2.  She has good command and some swing and miss stuff.  Preston has some tools, but she is going to need some time to develop.  Her command is not nearly as advanced as Gettins at this point.

Lockhart got a DP start and had an RBI single.  Sides had a nice sac fly that was almost a double/triple in the gap, and she can really cover some ground.

I wasn't able to make the games Friday night. How did Ithe upperclassmen look? Where did Morgan play? I see were Stephen posted that Tow played first. Did Hemphill sit the bench? I know Murphy tends to play the freshman a lot during fall ball but it sounds like Morgan is a real ball player.

Hemphill caught the first game and hit a 2-run homer.  Schroder had a bases loaded triple.  Booker just missed a homer with a double off the wall, and had 1 or 2 more hits.  Turner had a hit or two.  Morgan started at 3B and 2B and had 4 or 5 hits in the 2 games, including 2 doubles.

The starters were:
P - Preston / Gettins
C - Hemphill / Dykes
1B - Hardy / Tow
2B - Turner / Morgan
3B - Morgan / Grantham
SS - Booker / Jenkins
LF - Bobo / Sides
CF - Schroder / Brown
RF - Tow / Callaway
DP - Fain / Lockhart

Morgan got another start today at 3B and showed out again.  Another 3 for 3 with a walk.  Dykes popped a no-doubter grand slam.  Lockhart had some very nice ABs, including one where she fell behind 0-2 and worked it back to full before singling in a run.  Also rocketed a double in the gap for a couple of RBIs.  Positions were pretty much the same as Friday, except Jenkins started at 3B and 2B, and Hemphill got one at 1B.

Just wanted to add/point-out that Dykes had a beautiful pick off at 1B.  Her pick-offs just make me happy.  They're just so great.

Seems like we haven't had a threatening defensive catcher in a while...Dawson or Holcombe maybe? Dykes made some great throws vs. Florida in last year's SR, keeps getting better.

Dykes is awesome. I really like the combination of Dykes at catcher and Hemphill at first. Both are athletic girls. They seem to have a rapport when it comes to picking runners off of first. Hemphill has really improved at first. She had a nice dig of a Maddie Morgan throw in the dirt for an out yesterday. Speaking of Morgan, that girl will be hard for Murphy to keep her off of the field. Her stick was awesome and her glove was good at 3rd.
