I think the original Alabama Softball Thread should be the inaugural thread of the UCS Hall of Fame

GAME 2

Tennessee freshman pitcher Ellen Renfroe allowed just one run on two hits to hand Alabama its first conference loss of the season. The rookie fanned seven but walked six to earn the 4-1 win and improve to 14-2 on the season.

The loss in the circle for freshman Jackie Traina was her first of her collegiate career. Traina allowed four runs - three earned - on seven hits and struck out nine in six innings.

Sophomore Kayla Braud and junior Jennifer Fenton were the only Tide players to record a hit in the contest. Braud has now reached base in a school-record 51 straight games.

After Tennessee took an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the fourth, Alabama cut the lead in half with a single run in the fifth.

Freshman Kaila Hunt drove in the only run for the Tide when she grounded out to Renfroe to bring home sophomore Courtney Conley from third.

TUSCALOOSA -- Alabama earned the nation's No. 1 ranking in both softball polls Tuesday prior to its doubleheader at No. 11 Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide split the series winning its 30th game of the season, then dropping just its second.

Alabama won the opener 9-5, the fell in the second game 4-1. The Tide is 30-2 and 6-1 in the SEC.

In the first game, Alabama seniorKelsi Dunne struck out eight while allowing five runs on seven hits and walking four batters. She received plenty of offensive support from juniors Cassie Reilly-Boccia andJennifer Fenton, who combined for four hits and five RBIs. That allowed Dunne to climb to 14-1 for the season picking up career win No. 98, the second most career wins all-time at Alabama.

Alabama struggled in the second game gaining just two hits and a run off of Volunteers freshman Ellen Renfroe. She struckout seven and walked six en route to the win and a 14-2 record.

Alabama freshman Jackie Traina suffered her first pitching loss of the season. She allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out nine in six innings.

Tide sophomore Kayla Braud, who had one of the hits, reached base for a school record 51-straight games.

Alabama returns to Rhoads Stadium this weekend to host Arkansas in a three-game series. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Glad we got through that stretch, I wish we hadn't lost last night, but hopefully the girls will learn something from it and we will come out bats a blazing this weekend.

I was definitely disappointed with the loss last night.  The team looked a little dead on the defensive side of the ball.  Even though we didn't get a lot of hits, many players where fouling off lots of balls.  So just need to make some minor adjustments to get those in play.  In all actuality, to split was something we should all be thankful for.  Hard to get up for two series in a row, and the girls were certainly up for the UGA series.  Still in great position to win the SEC.

...agree.  She has regressed to that wild out of control looping swing we saw early last year.

It's gotta be hard on her.  I think she regressed to that as a means to just hit a hr when she can't get the base hits to fall.  But she had two good at bats last night then ended on a bad one.  As long as she can come around for the end of season I will be happy.

If we are calling out players, and I really hate to do this, but I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to see some more offensive production from Kendall Dawson.  Obviously she has earned her spot on the field with her defensive play, which is stellar to say the least.  But last night when following the game, I noticed she had 10 hits to 21 strikeouts.  (Although yesterday she did pretty well getting on base without hits.)  I hope there is someway that both her and Locke can turn around those BAs.

They claim to have "invented" the white sauce.  I just know when I was in North Carolina I missed it.  Of course when I was in Colorado Springs I missed BBQ.  I kept threatening to open a BBQ and Catfish restaurant but my wife stopped me.  She said those folks moving from California wouldn't eat it.  Don't know.  Probably right.

Just imagine what it has been like to live in California for 4.5 years.  I have tried about ever BBQ restaurant in the Southern California area and they are horrendous.  But every time I get back to Decatur one of the first places we stop is BBG.

Just being nosy on a "foreign" thread, but is this restaurant named after my favorite old time Cardinal pitcher? He's my son's ALL TIME fav. Cardinal player of any position.

Unfortunately the answer is no ...  Big Bob Gibson's dates back to 1925 when Bob Gibson served a BBQ sandwich from his backyard out of a hand-dug pit for the first time.  He was 6'4" and 300lbs and a railroad worker who was told by everyone that he would be better off with a BBQ restaurant than working on the railroads.  And since then, BBG has been around for 75 years and 4 generations.

Some props from Ralph Weekly...

"Alabama is a true No. 1 team," Lady Vol Co-Head Coach Ralph Weekly said. "In my opinion they are the best Alabama squad we've played in my 10 years here at Tennessee. Karen (Co-Head Coach Weekly) and I are so proud of our team for bringing the fight to them in game two. These are the types of games that make teams stronger down the road in postseason play."
