From combined reports

COLUMBIA, S.C. | The No. 1 University of Alabama softball team used a grand slam from senior Whitney Larsen and a pair of home runs from freshman Kaila Hunt to down South Carolina 7-0 in the series opener Friday night at Beckham Field.

Alabama (35-2, 10-1 in SEC) senior Kelsi Dunne (17-1) held the Gamecocks’ (17-16, 3-11 SEC) bats at bay as the right-hander struck out 12 and allowed just two hits.

Hunt went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs. The pair of homers moves her season total to eight. Larsen collected two hits and drove in four on the strength of her grand slam, which moves her home run total to nine.

Freshman Jackie Traina and junior Jazlyn Lunceford both had two hits while Traina drove in a run.

After some missed opportunities early, Alabama finally broke through. With two outs in the fifth inning, Traina laced a liner down the left-field line to score junior Jennifer Fenton.

Alabama broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning. Hunt got the scoring going with a solo home run to give the Tide a 2-0 lead. Then with two outs, Larsen belted her grand slam to make it 6-0. Hunt hit another solo home run in the seventh inning.

When the comment was written, if I remember correctly, the headline said they won 7-1.

She might only be outshined by Renfroe's 20Ks on Friday.   Nonetheless, the count is 38Ks to SVB's record?

Not exactly thrilled with a 1-0 game against South Carolina, but the fact that SC went 21 innings this weekend without scoring a single run is definitely IMPRESSIVE.

SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kelsi Dunne - Alabama
Sr., Port Orange, Fla.

Dunne put together another solid weekend for the Crimson Tide earning two more wins to move her record to 18-1 on the season. Dunne opened the series against South Carolina with a complete game, two-hit shutout. The right-hander struck out 12 and walked three. In the series finale, Dunne tossed her eighth career no-hitter and second of the season by striking out 10 and walking two. On the week the senior was 2-0 and allowed just two hits while striking out 22 in 14 innings. The Gamecocks could only muster a .047 batting average against the senior.

looking at lsu stats.. they appear to pack very little punch.. not that I think they're not capable of beating Bama but it'll dissapointing not to get a sweep...

I'm looking foward to my first trip to Baton Rouge

I hope for a sweep, but am quite nervous about it as well.  Last year LSU held with us pretty closely and we eked out some wins at home.  I'm hoping we can get some good offense going after that lackluster final SC game because LSU's pitchers are going to be a little bit more difficult than SCs.

Rachel Mitchell drove in 5 of the 8 runs that LSU scored in the 3 games against Alabama last year.

And Shortridge is gone too. Doesn't mean I'm not scared of LSU pulling a rabbit out of the hat at their homefield. On paper, Bama should beat them frontwards and backwards. All it takes is one Jenna Rodriguez though.

LSU, 31-27, is the only Southeastern Conference team that holds a series advantage over Alabama.

Hopefully we can get this corrected this year or next

I wouldn't mind making it this year  If only for getting it done before YG leaves.

Was just rewatching the Arkansas game; what exactly happened to Courtney Conley? I've noticed her arm in a sling lately at the games. How long is she expected to be out? I'm glad to see Kaila Hunt adjusting to third well and Branham doing a good job at second while Conley is out.

Kelli, I don't know and have not seen anything written about it.  From observation it appeared that she jammed her shoulder when she slid in.
