Exactly. ACC is weak, and isn’t getting better

Isn't there some talk going on whether to allow all the teams into the 2018 ACC tournament ? Aren't there an even number now?

That should be good news for likes of Duke & Clemson. In looking at Duke's ACC schedule next Spring they did get a break by not having to play FSU in the regular season. They do have South Caroline, Upstate, Coastal, Longwood & may have a possible matchup with KY @ Citrus Classic.

Seriously... you can be a team that would get run-ruled twice in a regional and finish as high as third in the ACC

What's going on over at Duke who will start playing this year?  I noticed their roster has 17, all freshmen other than one grad student transfer, and 6 redshirts.  Are they really going to play all spring with 11 or are some of those redshirts likely to come off? Anyone venture a guess as to where they finish, probably not the worst team in the ACC based on talent, just not much college playing experience.

Actually, Duke has 2 Grad students with experience. Also the JMU transfer & 1 other from a JUCO. The JMU transfer, Raine Wilson looked pretty good against NC State & Elon. There will be a January addition as a 2018 will be arriving early. She looks to have a good bat but, that transition to college is always the big question mark.

All pitchers will be true freshman. Lacy Waldrop got her hands full, hope they are all quick studies!

I think he was referring to the NCAA tournament, and yes, the ACC is considering a vote to expanding their end of the season tournament to 12 teams.

I saw three ACC teams in action last weekend......Duke's pitching staff is as strong as any of the other two.

As far as Lacy Waldrop......one of the best hires I've seen this year in college softball.....right temperament and a ton of knowledge.

Pathetic

Can we hear some specifics on what you base this on? I'd love a breakdown with actual facts about the teams in these conferences.

Facts?

The second-best RPI in the ACC was UNC at a putrid-for-second-place-in-a-conference 32, and they lost one of the best players in school history in Lynch.

The top TWO programs in the BigTen lost their senior aces.

Thats it? You trash three conferences potential on that? 1 player in the ACC and two pitchers in the Big Ten. I guess there isn't any other players in those conference(or Those teams) that will step up this season. Any facts about THIS YEARS teams from those conferences?

Those conferences were BRUTALLY bad after the champion team in 2017....and, barring a major freshman impact we haven't seen in a while, they will be worse.

But, I will be here for you to tell me what's what when Louisville starts 40-0, and when Holloway and Beaubien are a combined 42-1

I railed against the ACC last year. An ACC assistant coach got on the horn with me and said I was wrong and that the conference was deeper than it had been.

The coach admitted I was right in April, calling it a "s***show'

Don’t they have a pretty good freshman in Copeland?

I would guess a freshman and Cassidy Davis will be in a pitched battle for that crucial role as first reliever

I get it. Easy to get the hackles up when the DD is a freshman.

My best advice -- if you are going to get your panties in a bunch about someone saying something as uncontroversial and generally accepted as "other than FSU, the ACC blows" -- is for you to lay off this board

The title of the thread is ACC softball. If you bash the ACC teams in your comments  and use words like pathetic to describe the teams expect some blowback. It was started to get some conversation going about the teams. If you have seen all the Big Ten and ACC teams play this fall and had some conversation to back up your Pathetic  comment then OK. Just rubs me wrong you calling teams you haven't seen play Pathetic. When the seasons done, you may be able to criticize these conferences but how about we let it play out first. To answer outofzone, I haven't seen them play so I can't say.

At this point, it is more incumbent on YOU to let us know why this isn't Groundhog Day in 2018

While Va Tech hasn't verballed any 7th graders, YET, from Oct 2nd there is Angela Tincher, pitching coach proudly standing with 2023 Kirsten Fleet of the Impact-Fisher Team, on her Unofficial Visit to Blacksburg.

I assume Ms Fleet is a great kid. Gets along well with others, plays nice in the Schoolyard Sandbox & her favorite snack is Hi-C and Gummy Bears. Since her pic is with Tincher, I suppose she's also a pitcher. No doubt, one of the top 7th graders in the country. I'm sure the book on her reads like this: throws in the low to mid 60s with great movement. Commands the mound. Can throw any of her 7 pitches on any count. Tough competitor who hates to lose. Shutdown pitcher.

I'm sure this was a really narly field trip for the youngster. I hope she at least got an autograph of Tincher, one of the best to ever pitch. Maybe even shared some Cotton Candy. But here are a couple of certainties:

In 6+ years, IF the 2023 is even playing softball, Tincher will most likely be at her 2nd or 3rd coaching stop, Scott Thomas will be working with ex UVA Coach Blake Miller at some Middle School in Southern Mexico. Va Tech, with it's long overdue new coaching staff will be once again competitive in the ACC. At any rate, the former Impact-Fisher phenom will most likely have long de-committed from Tech because...go figure...she changed her mind. Or the new coaches tell her they aren't interested in any previous staff commits because of their history of recruiting kids who weren't capable of competing at the D1 level.
