It is happening all over NCAA softball this year

Look at Maryland beating Michigan and Florida
Bama beating Valpo 1-0 and on and on

Crazy out there this year.

Does Louisville have to either a) win a game against FSU or b) reach the final of the ACC tournament to make the field of 64?

Watched the last 4 innings of this game online, kinda pulling for UVa now.  They don't look very talented but they battle and seem to be playing hard down the stretch for the new coach.  Hope she can recruit well cause it's gonna be an uphill battle to turn that program around.

UVA takes 2 from ND today
Syracuse beats UNC yesterday and today

#2-#8 in ACC is up for grabs - but no one wants to be 8,4 or 5 and have to face FSU

I think UVA would be happy with the #8 seed - just to make the playoffs would be a good finish for them. Certainly helped as they just swept Notre Dame. Who would have thought that even possible, especially at ND? UVA will certainly need every win they can muster to make the playoffs as they finish the conference next weekend by playing Louisville. Kinda cheering for UVA right now as the underdog.

Wow - as nolefan mentioned, UVA just swept Notre Dame @ ND. Virginia outscored the Irish 28-15 in the series. This is probably one of the biggest upset sweeps in D1 this year - UVA came into the series with an RPI of 152. It amazes me how a team (Notre Dame) can beat Michigan, Georgia and Oklahoma and then later in the year lose a series to G-Tech and get swept by Virginia at home. Crazy!

FSU got very lucky, won it in 10 innings, did not deserve the win with 5 errors. First game was also ugly. FSU wont go very far in the post season with a shaky defense.

1. Defense has not shaky most of year

2. Good teams can still win ugly games.

Rewatching the seventh inning of game one and those JMU fans sure were "friendly".

Gotta love the sound the cameras pick up.

Campbell 7, NC State 4 (final)

NC State might lose one or two of those votes.

???  I was there.  Lots of Dukes in attendance. I certainly didn't see or hear anything untoward. Pretty standard riding the HP umpire whose strike zone was a postage stamp.

Has there ever been a conference with 10 worse softball teams than the ACC this year? And UNC without Lynch? Jeebus Criminy

Maybe there is just more parity amongst the bad teams...if possible.

Part of the problem is too many HC have fossilized in their jobs. How Thomas @ Va Tech keeps his job is a minor miracle. Same with UVA,NC State. UNC trending down also. Ga Tech goes without saying.  On top of that the recruiting at all above schools is pathetic. Keep bringing in a bunch of over hyped, avg players. Stop bringing in the CA "stud" on a full ride who plays on the 11th, 18U Batbuster/Firecrackers team, things might change a bit.

Must say that Joanna Hardin at UVa is a good hire that will hopefully change the CA recruiting model.  Strong Virginia ties and coached a travel team in the state years ago.  I think she will give JMU and Va Tech a run for their money for good in state talent now.  While 21 wins so far and a current 7 game win streak is hard to be too excited about it is a huge improvement over past years and the Miller debacle. With talks underway for a new facility (which has to be the worst in the ACC by far) the future could be looking up for the Hoos. Time will tell.

Not sure about "life" but finally at least a "pulse!" ha    3 Virginia gals in next years recruiting class which tops the entire total on this years roster. Academics make it tough in Charlottesville (as it does in a lot of schools) but with an inspired coach and a new facility you never know.
Also you have to like all the hires Whit Babcock has done in Blacksburg so you would have to think that ST if feeling the heat.  Hokies are not good right now and MD in Harrisonburg kicking their #@& in recruiting.

Not necessarily disagreeing and I do hope she turns the program around but there are still a lot of work for them to do.

Hardin doesn't really have strong connections to Va, she was at Liberty for only a couple of years before going to HS and travel in Va before going to McNeese.  Never been anywhere very long and doesn't have a lot of recruiting success on her resume, her assistant who is now HC at McNeese did that.  It does look like she can coach because she's getting better results out of Miller's players than he got from them.  Before they hired her I thought someone like Riley at Longwood would be a better fit, she knows Va and recruits very well in the state and gets a lot out of no-name players for an unfunded program in the middle of nowhere.  You can't win with only Va kids but if you fill most of your roster with them and get a few out of state studs in key positions that formula should work well.

Her primary pitchers are sophomores with 4.5-ish era's.  Her only pitching commit for next year is one of Miller's recruits who is a distant 2 or 3 in high school behind a JMU commit and has bounced around so many travel teams I have no idea where she's playing now.  Usually, when a pitcher is bouncing around travel teams it's because they aren't getting enough circle time.  They need help there so hopefully they get either a transfer or maybe they luck out with another Duke commit that gets caught up in the red tape of their admissions process.

Getting into the ACC tournament would be a tangible improvement that will likely buy her another year or so to get better players in.

What a strange year for ND, and such a drop from a few years ago.  Just shows how much a pitcher will do for you.

they are bringing in two pitching recruits next year, including the top ranked pitcher in the 2017 class (according to flosoftball).
