Monica Abbott struck out 15 batters again last night. She seems to have been hitting that 15 number quite a lot this season. This time she had 15 Ks through the first 6 innings.

She had 3 Ks in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th (with a pop up to the pitcher), 2 in the 5th (with a grounder to the pitcher), and 2 in the 6th (with a grounder to third base).

So through 6 innings, she personally handled 17 of the 18 outs (with 15 Ks and 1 gb and 1 pop up). The ground out to third base was the only out she didn't toss or field.

Surprisingly, she didn't get a strike out in the 7th. It was a pop up to 2B and then 2 gb to 2B.

She struck out ten different Bandit batters (five of them twice).

Abbott did get touched for 4 runs (3 of them ER). Sahvanna Jaquish led of the 4th inning with a solo HR on the first pitch.

In the 5th, Monica got the first two batters out on a gb back to herself and then a K. But then Benna Moss walked on a 3-2 pitch and Emily Carasone followed that with a double down the left field line (putting runners on second & third).

Stacy May replaced Natalie Hernandez (who had struck out  both times) and she beat out a gb to SS for a RBI (and Carasone advanced to third). Carasone then scored on a wild pitch. And that was followed by a throwing error by the catcher to allow the third run of the inning to score.

Abbott's Scrapyard Dawgs scored plenty of runs for her, so she still won the game 8-4. Her W-L record is now 13-2 with 2 saves. But those 3 ER put her ERA over the 1 mark for the first time this season (at 1.05 now).

Monica has now struck out 163 batters in 87 IP. That is 13.11 SO/7IP.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Danielle O'Toole started the game for the Chicago Bandits - but had a poor outing. She gave up 5 runs (4 ER) in 1 and 1/3 IP.

She came back and pitched better in the second game of this double header. She gave up 2 runs (both earned) in 3 and 2/3 IP.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The player who pitched most effectively in the first game - was Chicago's Sierra Hyland who gave up no hits and just 1 walk in 4 and 1/3 IP while allowing no runs to score.

You might remember Sierra Hyland as the pitcher who beat Oklahoma in back to back games during the 2017 season. It was the only time the Sooners lost back to back games this year - and Hyland was the only pitcher who beat them twice.
