SAN DIEGO - San Diego State softball assistant head coach Stacey Nuveman Deniz recently helped the USA Softball Women's National Team win its fifth consecutive World Cup title. Nuveman Deniz, who completed her third season with the Aztecs last spring, was an assistant coach with Team USA, which defeated Japan, 6-4, in the championship game on July 25.

Team USA went 5-1 at the World Cup, which was held at The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of American Hall of Fame Complex from July 21-25 in Oklahoma City. Over the six games, USA outscored its opponents by a 39-16 margin. In addition, Team USA hit .336 with a .568 slugging percentage and .437 on-base percentage.

Nuveman Deniz also assisted head coach Ken Eriksen in six exhibition games against the Junior Women's National Team and at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch Women's International Championship (July 9-17).

This past season, Nuveman Deniz helped SDSU set six offensive program records, including slugging percentage (.440), runs (266), doubles (74), home runs (42), RBIs (236) and total bases (630).

Nuveman Deniz is a three-time Olympic medalist, winning gold in 2000 and 2004, and silver at the 2008 games in Beijing. She was a four-time first-team NFCA All-American and three-time Pac-10 Player of the Year as a catcher at UCLA, finishing her career with four NCAA records with 90 home runs, 299 RBI, .945 slugging percentage and 240 walks
