Judi Garman Softball Classic begins March 14th.

Interesting side-note.  Unless a decision has been made to open them for this Classic, it appears left and center fields will be closed to fans.  Fullerton has removed some palm trees and utilized this area by installing a huge putting green surrounded by a sand trap as a practice area for the golf teams.  It looks great but will disappoint those fans who enjoyed outfield seating on the grass.  It wasn't open last weekend but, who knows, maybe there will be an exception for the Judi Garman Classic that I'm unaware of.

Dewey,
It's diappointing to everyone.  Sad for those of us that enjoy that area.  Things change... we need to deal with it I guess.  We had the tournament meeting yesterday and the answer is still no to fans.  Keep our fingers cross that they make an exception by next Wed.  I did ask for the Big West signs to be moved to the ceterfield area so people could as least stand in rightfield to view F1.  We will find out Wed. I guess.  See you out there.

Thanks Deb.  In any case, this tournament remains one of the premiere events of the season.  Hope you all make it.

For several years people have remarked to me that Cathedral City has taken the glitter away from the Garman. This year's edition might be the worst ever. Most significantly there are no games Saturday night and only 2 on Sunday. Will there be a discount on Sunday because there certainly wasn't at the DeMarini? There are some good teams here but precious few marquee matchups. Last year Arizona played Oklahoma and Michigan. Those teams are replaced this year by Fullerton and UC Davis. I always buy a tournament pass but this year I may only go 1 day.

I almost fully agree.  Only two games on Sunday is VERY WEAK.  Thursday looks superb, and Friday looks pretty good, but not sure I'm interested in seeing Saturday or Sunday.

I don't know guys.  No doubt the absence of Texas is disappointing this year but Saturday still has OU/Wash, BYU/Arizona, DePaul/Michigan, and Louisiana/Arizona to name four.  We'll see how it all plays out.

Louisiana could very well be 23-0 coming in. They swept Houston last night in Houston. Had 2 grand slams in game 1. There hitting is unbelievable. They have out scored there opponents 194 to 24. This is a team to watch.

I agree. One of my favorite Lotief moments came when Mike blew a gasket at the Garmen and pushed his wife away and his assistant coach after getting tossed. He wasn't quite ready to leave yet. It was quite a performance and almost as entertaining as watching a Marty Tyson vs Phil Bruder game.

I wish Texas was going back after sweeping through the Classic last year but I am excited for them to be going to the Spring Fling for the first time since '08 and getting to face two undefeated teams in Hawaii and Cal. Good way to send the seniors out this year, no one on this roster has gotten to participate in Spring Fling before.

So PD is only going to watch the coach to see if he gets tossed. lmao.  Almost as good as the Georgia Assistant Coach.

Man you will be laughing for days.

I happen to like Mike Lotief. He's passionate about the game and his teams compete well against the schools that have more money. He's had his team in the world series and I've talked to him about hitting at length in Colorado when Don Slaught was introducing right view pro. Of course my father was born and raised in Louisiana so I hold the state in much higher regard than some. In fact should you ever come out of hiding I'd love to assist the Cajun fans in helping you with that dental work you so obviously need.

One time Michael got into a head to head argument with a fan that was hilarious.

The Cajun fans are among the nicest every year at Fullerton.

Wait!  "Mild mannered Phil" get in an argument?  He's been nothing but an angel as an LMU assistant coach.  I just simply couldn't imagine him getting heated!

How about Mr. Glasco or does he specialize in umpires only?

What I'd give to be at this UM vs. ND game.  Going into the 7th tied 1-1, both pitchers seemingly throwing a nice game.

Coach Mike is a trip, he comes across pretty negatively to people who don't really know him but he loves the game so much that he can go to pretty crazy ends at times! The thing I love about him is his desire for perfection, no matter whether up 10 runs or down 10 runs he's fighting for everything he can get and I think that is a great attitude to have for players to imitate. Sometimes I have to laugh when I see him arguing with the umps when we are up 7-0 late in games but the man is a winner.

I really wish I could make this tournament some year

The freshman Jordan Wallace really stymied the Sun Devil bats and the Cajun hitters lit up both Escobedo and Popescue, scoring in each of the last five innings.
