They will be in Japan... in August.
This team is their training team. This is the group they are giving some experience to, and in case they need to pull someone up due to injury, they’ve got someone already within the system. This group consists of the youngers, and they’re getting hands-on experience from some of the veterans, against the best-of the-best. Believe it or not, USA is actually looking beyond 2020, skeptics. Geesh.

Again, the world championship team is the team going in August.

Just saying..not everyone on that team is young.

USA won't dominate Japan no matter which team they field. They have sold out.

Okay I got it! The youngsters are getting hands-on experience watching the veterans get their a$$es beat by the Japs.

I think our World Championship team will make the difference. Abbott, Ricketts, and Barnhill (with the leap being 100% legal)....that’s a pretty lethal staff

Reminds me of Bill Conroy's 2013 Beverly Bandits PGF staff.

So is there a lesson to be learned here? Don’t leave Abbott on the bench in lieu of Barnhill overpitching?

Some of the best lessons we ever learn we learn from our mistakes and failures. The error of the past is the wisdom of the future.

Do those of you parents of past and present players use this forum as a place to vent, before going back and being the beacons of positivity with your kids? Cuz I can’t imagine they could ever have made it to play at the college level with such negativity & bitterness surrounding them

Ummm, the US National Team program literally gave away their dominance to the Japanese...gone backwards!

Posts from 3leftturns have no value, so it doesn't matter what this creature implies.

I asked Devin22 what this has to do with college softball because there may be some connection. Some of these players may be returning to their college teams next season and this experience may help them in the Player of the Year race, or contribute to their teams advancing in post season play. I didn't see the connection, that's why I asked Devin22 the question.

But I do thank you for answering the question with civility, as a person with character would do.

It seems to me that Paige Parker out pitched Kelly Barnhill every time they met up.

Just sayin'.

Wasn’t she invited to the selection camp, but declined? If so, then she took herself out of that race for this year’s squad. But there’s still a couple more selection camps to go before the final team is announced.

I believe in comparing the two pitchers, you also have to consider pitch calling. Apparently, Barnhill has a change up that USA will use and Walton’s crew will not.

Why wouldn’t Coach Walton use her change up?

Ok. Your point? Tell her to go try out for the team.

If she has anything resembling an Off-Speed pitch that's a new development. I did see her attempt some off speed stuff this past season but it was far from game ready.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The point seems pretty self evident...
That is a pretty lethal staff...
but it could be even more lethal.

Kelly B is still a pretty great pitcher... but she seems to be less lethal - than she used to be.
I like my chances with Abbott (or Ricketts) in the circle quite a bit more...
than I do with Barnhill.

And... if they don't give Paige Parker a good hard look before the 2020 Olympics comes around...
they haven't done their jobs very well.
