Thanks, as well, DIIFan. Prompted me to look at schedule and realized first game in my neck of the woods starts on Thursday. I'll be there in Chico. Go Wildcats!

Southeast 1 Region at Dahlonega, Georgia

  1. *North Georgia (56-2) - Ranked #1 in the nation. PBC Conference Champions (automatic bid). Two dominate pitchers (both up for DII Player of the Year), they've had better teams in the past. Why is Head Coach Mike Davenport still in D2?
  2. Coker (35-16) - 1st regional appearance in 11 years.
  3. Queens (North Carolina) (35-15) - 1st regional appearance since 2010. Former George Washington Head Coach Stacey Schramm leds Queens to regional after her second year at the helm.
  4. King (Tennessee) (34-20) - Surprising run through the Conference Carolinas Tournament (automatic bid).

Southeast 2 Region at Hickory, North Carolina

  1. *Lenoir-Rhyne (42-8) - Ranked #11 in the nation. Good pitching staff. Consistently good in the South Atlantic Conference. Surprising loss in 1st round of conference tournment.
  2. Georgia College (36-14)- Ranked #21 in the nation. Young team. Columbus State threw a no-hitter against them at conference semi-final.
  3. Carson-Newman (32-19) Why did NFCA Hall of Famer Vickee Halzee Hollifield retire abruptly in April? Shutout Lenoir-Rhyne in the 1st round of the SAC tournment and won conference tournment (automatic bid).
  4. Young Harris (32-18) - Third regional appearance in 3 years under Kayla Lucas. Split with North Georgia on April 8th. Good bats.

Southeast 1 Region - North Georgia will be the victor. Coker did give North Georgia one of their losses this season!
Southeast 2 Region - Toss up! All 4 teams in this region could win.

Any other predictions or comments?

Perhaps, Mike Davenport stays at North Georgia because there are coaches who genuinely enjoy coaching DII softball.  He has clearly developed a recipe for success at North Georgia and if he has the tools to win...why move on?

I'm just saying he has a very impressive resume!!! And you are correct, why move on when you have the recipe and the facilities to win year in and out.

In a conversation with a coach who shifted divisions during runs as an assistant with a D-2 Nat'l Champ, D-1 assistant, D-2 head, D-1 head back to D-2 HC, related that competing for a title was better than coaching in a program where the best outlook was winning conference and maybe a game at regional level.

Personal preference. As Milton relates about that guy who said,

"Better to reign in..."

I will be at Chico St. for their game at 2:30 PM. The infamous shorts were left at home. [tongue]

No one happier than North Georgia when Armstrong State was consolidated into Georgia Southern in 2017 and all Armstrong athletics were terminated.  Armstrong eliminated North Georgia 3 of last 4 years in Super Regionals. The year North Georgia got to Nationals and won it, was the only year they didn't meet Armstrong in Supers.

To Doubt!!! Head Coach Ted Evans had UNG's number. Kim Dean was Head Coach last year at Armstrong (led them to the World Series last year, by the way Ted's team), and she then replaces Annie Smith at Georgia Southern when the merger happened!!! Talk about being fast tracked from DII assistant to DII Head Coach (1 year) to being a Head Coach in the Sun Belt!!!

Isn't that the very definition of trophy hunting?

He's almost describing NDSU.  They won a DII National championship and moved up to D1.  I wonder what they'd find more rewarding A) Winning DII National Championship.  B) Winning their conference and taking a game from Oklahoma in Norman?

The correct answer to this question is: Carson Wentz.

North Alabama is leaving D2 for D1 after this season to be a member of the Atlantic Sun. The football team will play in the Big South. North Alabama softball won D2 Natl Championship in 2016 and the football team lost in the Natl Championship game in 2016. Softball has a chance to make one last run for the Natl Championship! Both sports will compete right away in their conferences. No more Natl Championship runs though!!!

Bump this thread with Congratulations! to Chico State for winning their half of the Western Regionals. Headed to Utah facing victor of the other half, Dixie State. Wildcats the #1 seed, however graduation forces giving up the hosting opportunity for the Super Regional contests.

See that North Georgia is headed to their Super Regional. Who else is in the Sweet Sixteen?

Congrats to North Georgia and Young Harris winning Region 1 and Region 2 in the Southeast Region!!! These teams represent the Peach Belt Conference. Like my prediction North Georgia won with ease. Young Harris had a great weekend, as they made it to their 1st Super Regional!!! During the regular season Young Harris and North Georgia split, giving North Georgia one of their 2 losses on the season.
