I've seen at least a couple top 10 DIIs in the past 5 years or so that could readily defeat most DI mid majors and say RPI 35 or 40 and up.

Yes get someone who’s only been an Assistant at the D1 level god forbid you allow some of the very successful D2 coaches a chance to win at the next level. Just my opinion. I can read the hire Bio now. So and so “helped” lead xyz program to this and that. Bid difference from being an Assistant to a Head

You forgot that she will be a "rising star" in the profession and likely have had zero head coaching experience at any level.

Campbell is a small Mid Major D1 in the Big South. They aren't obligated to follow new guaranteed scholarship protocols the Power 5 instituted back in Sept 2015. The Coach, possibly former, had exit interviews and decided not to renew certain player's athletic scholarships for the upcoming season. His reasons are his alone but seems he thought they would be best for the overall health of the program moving forward.

If this current coach has truly been fired for releasing some players, any prospective new coach should take a serious look at how much actual autonomy they will really have with this current AD sitting on their shoulder. How is ANY coach able to do their job effectively when they know going in they are unable to make key decisions, because players & parents will start complaining. Doing the right thing doesn't always pay the bills. Winning does however.

I have no idea the state of the Campbell Softball program. Or the current & past standing of their coach. This is only an observation. I'm sure the actions of the AD are being applauded as 'the right thing to do'.  And maybe so. Exit interviews are standard practice at every program and, I can assure you over the past several weeks and the weeks to come, a great number of kids will be given their involuntary release or, at P5 Schools told their services are no longer needed. Recently, Duke just flat out cut a kid right after the ACC tourney.

It would be interesting to understand what the true details are with the Campbell scenario.

Campbell head softball coach job has been posted on their university employment website. I think in this situation, a new coach does not have to worry about the AD like you are stating. He was not well liked throughout the athletic department and had kids quitting during season and many that were going to quit if he stayed. I am curious to see who all is left come next fall. There may not be many players unless a new coach can pick up quite a few this summer.

Just throwing this out there. I think the mizzu press release is just a formality. Word is that someone is already hired....announced after team loses in supers or wcws

Bredbenner would be a GREAT hire! JK would also be a great hire...both work hard and get the most out of kids.

I was thinking the same thing... Iowa might be a better fit at this point.

Former Iowa HC was Clark’s former assistant so Iowa is probably done with Texas

I personally think that Brittany Weil-Miller will be the next head coach at Iowa. (If she applies for the job.) She was an All-American pitcher at Iowa while playing for Blevins; and has been an assistant coach at North Dakota State, Iowa State, and now Loyola Marymount.

I personally would like to see Stacy May get the Iowa job.  Played there, assisted there, moved on to other jobs and has done well at each stop.

Cat has never been a head coach - going in to the Power 5, you might want someone who has been a head coach before, World Series coach proven.  There is a lot of red tape, management, supervisor skills needed in addition to budget etc., that has to be done, and Texas is a big school to get a learning curve up.  That said, no telling what Texas will do.  I am sure she will be a HC someday, not sure if this is it.

We go through this every year and people are so quick to nominate completely inexperienced "coaches" for big jobs.  Could you imagine Jesse Palmer going straight from the booth to Notre Dame football, how about Tim Tebow going from SEC network and AA Baseball to Oregon football coach. How about Duke basketball player Grayson Allen, who may not be a tremendous pro, become the next head coach at Duke basketball?  Why not they were good players.  Let these young ladies learn how to actually coach and manage a game.  We are seeing way too many young players getting D1 coaching jobs with no coaching experience and they have no idea how to manage a game or manage the demands of a program.  The AD's are unfortunately setting them up to fail. Has Megan Willis every coached a game, ever? Anywhere? Yet toss her in to one of the biggest gigs? I have truly enjoyed watching both ladies play but lets give them a chance on a smaller stage first.  I love the route Taryn Mowatt took and she seems to really be learning the craft.

one thing i have learned to never do is underestimate Cat Osterman's ability to do 99.9% of the things she sets her mind to.

I will be very interested to see who gets the Texas job - for obvious reasons.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to hire the current head coach at Texas State and let Cat come along as pitching coach?

Coach W is a great coach - but not sure she's the right fit....hasn't been to World Series, and Super Regionals either (I think).  Think bigger resume or a more prominent name will get the nod to take the reins for UT.
