The other big one from Tucson (except she's actually tiny) is Karissa Buchanan who was also at the vegas showcase put on by the Allisters--teeny outfielder who hit .700 last weekend in the Phx tournament. She is also a Desert Thunder player and will graduate in '08 from Sabino High School.

I've seen Buchanan and I agree, she is a stud.

I have a question - when these girls made visits to the campus, and committed to going there, did they commit without knowing what scholarships were available 3 yrs from now, or are they committing to a coach who really doesn't have to offer them anything since they came to see him and they decided right then and there. How does this work?

Most schools can look down the road and have an idea of what there scholarship alotment will be. But, (IMO) it is easier for Arizona to do because (this is just a guess) with a team with only 14 or 15 players (with a few coming in from other UA sports), you would have to assume that whoever leaves Arizona is leaving a full scholarship, which is easy to keep track of and give out.

Mike White pitching his best or Mike White pitching for the camp kids, I have gotten a chance to see him pitch to college girls with his nastiest movement and speed and the best that they did was a little dribbler in the infield?????

Sabino is in the semi's vs Chaparral on the other side of the bracket so Buchanan and Fowler are one game away from facing off for the state title at that level. You mean Carissa Buchanan? Kenz can really give lefties fits so she'd better pack a lunch. Her best bet is to pray for a "Hillenbrand" strike zone. This would be great to see. I'm a big fan of both of those kids. __________________ "Do you have a light can you make me feel alright

The High School Pitcher in AZ isn't Kenzie Fowler and it's a Freshman from Phoenix St. Mary's in the State Championship Game. She had 17 K's and gave up 4 hits in 8 innings and won 2-0, Dallas Escobedo and she's 6'0 for the year she was 27-8, with 501 k's and era of 0.73. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/preps/articles/0602bigsoftpoy0603.html __________________ http://www.thesundevils.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=30300&SPID=126719&SPSID=749657 all home games are here live

I can certainly see the logic of picking Dallas Escobedo as the Arizona Big School Player of the year over Kenzie Fowler given their comparitive stats:

Quite frankly, it is understandable given they do not see the girls from outside the Phx metro area play as often (if at all). Not sure why they pick a supposed All-Arizona team... Why not the Arizona Daily Star or Tucson Citizen as keeper of the "All-Arizona" team given Tucson as an area has better softball credentials - 2006 NCAA and NJCAA national champions?? Who was the committee that selected this "All-Arizona" team?? Either get a credible process that is transparent and leaves no doubt that the selection process is location neutral and fair to girls all over the state or just leave it at the Tucson based All-Southern Arizona team and make an All-Central AZ team. Make no mistake, Ms. Escobedo is a great player, and a 14 year old phenom deserving of all state recognition, but Ms. Fowler still appears to be the most deserving big school player of the year in AZ.

I've heard "rumor" that Kenzie has some issues with her throwing arm..Not confirmed of course, only "rumor mill".....Hope it's not serious.. As far as Dallas E. getting the player of the year award..much like Tenn. coming into the WCWS ranked 5th...Strength of schedule might have had something to do with that ?? Just a guess..

According to Spy softball... Kenzi Fowler, one of the most promising young pitchers in the country, has injured her arm and will not accompany the USA Junior Olympic team to the Netherlands for the upcoming Junior Olympics. Kenzi has been replaced on the roster by Megan Langenfeld, who had a standout freshman year for UCLA.

Here's an update on the girl that this thread was actually started about.
Apparently she has moved down from 18U gold to 16U this year. The article does not mention the reasons why or how she preformed last summer but it does tell about her freshman high school season. http://www.thesouthern.com/articles/2007/06/13/sports/20573463.txt __________________ Do things the right way, or don't do them at all!

I remember seeing something on TV (maybe ESPN) about a young phenom that sounds like this young girl (Fowler)- she was also on the national radar for volley ball - same girl? If so may have a bearing on where she goes.
(Aside - yesterday on another thread I got off on the east/west thing - isn't it interesting that as soon as Frank mentions the girl from AZ everyone immediately assumes, yes, that must be who completegame is talking about and the whole thread goea off on a tangent about her. Lo and behold - there IS a girl in the midwest that he was inquiring about - fancy that. I am not imagining the mindset.) __________________ A2Rozie

Rozie - Kenzie Fowler of Canyon del Oro HS in Arizona is one of the top pitching prospects currently in high school. She has committed to Arizona. Recently she had life saving surgery that grew out of a blood flow blockage in her pitching arm. She is back pitching now and is doing very well.
